Isabell Cagle Mote

Isabell Cagle Mote, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, July 29, 2011, in the presence of family at her Los Osos home. Born on an Oklahoma farm in the heart of the Dustbowl, she was raised during the Great Depression. After graduation from high school in Perryton, Texas, Isabell joined her sisters in San Diego. She first worked at Convair and then Bell Telephone Company. It was in San Diego that she met and married R.D. Mote Jr. They were active in ballroom dancing competitions and belonged to the Dancers'' Guild and National Smooth Dancers. They made their home in Covina and then La Mesa, Calif., where they raised their two children, Rebecca and Douglas. Isabell retired from Pacific Bell Telephone in 1987. Not one to remain idle, she began a second career as a medical office manager for Rebecca and son-in-law, John, in San Antonio, Texas. They all moved to Los Osos in 1997. After R.D. passed, Isabell lived in Lakeside, Calif., with Douglas and daughter-in-law, Becky, and helped them care for their two girls. Isabell''s selfless and tenacious nature shone throughout her life - she was a devoted mother and grandmother, loyal friend, hard-working member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a steadfast caregiver for R.D. when he suffered from Alzheimer''s Disease. Whenever her family needed her, Isabell was on her way before the request was completed. Surviving are her children Rebecca Peake (John) of Los Osos and Douglas Mote (Becky) of Lakeside; and five grandchildren Christopher, Cole and Laura Peake and Sarah and Rachel Mote. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, Los Osos Church of Christ, 2058 Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos.
