William Winfield Obituary
William Winfield Jr, 78, of Southfield, Michigan suddenly passed away on March 13, 2021. William worked at Detroit Public School for over 35 years as a Teacher and Coach. William coached Girls Basketball at Martin Luther King HS. He won over 5 State Championships, over 20 League Titles, 25 PSL City Titles and 20 District Championships. William leaves to cherish in his loving memory Sister Inetta Brown of Pontiac, Michigan; Five Brothers Russell (Juanita) Winfield, Michael, Warren. Jerome and Frederick Winfield all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Granddaughters Brittany (Damian) Clark of Houston, Texas; Bria Hunt Dickson, Briana Watson; and Grandson Braylon Watkins all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Swanson Funeral Home, 806 East Grand Blvd. Detroit, Michigan 48207. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Solomon Smith. Family Hour 9:30 a.m. Funeral following at 10:00 a.m.

Coach Winfield was one of best coaches I had. He was more than a Coach to me, more like family. He helped me and family more than every. Gave me the confidence I have today to even play basketball. I wouldn’t be consider a Legend without Coach Winfield. Coach gave some many people the opportunity to succeed and be successful in life. You will always be remembered

Winfield was more than a coach. He was your motivation to push through, reminder to laugh and keep smiling, confidence booster, and a father figure for so many of his girls. I can never call us his athletes because he treated every last one of us like one of his own. We trained and played not only as a team but as a family. Your presence will live on and we will never forget you coach.
