Alvin Cochran Obituary

Alvin K Cochran

November 5, 1935 - July 11, 2024

Ft Worth, Texas - Alvin Kersnick Cochran, died on July 11, 2024, at the age of 88 in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was also born on November 5, 1935. He leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication to his family and his many passions.

Alvin graduated from Arlington Heights High School and furthered his education at Texas Christian University, embodying the spirit of his beloved Fort Worth throughout his life. His professional journey as a Quality Control Manager with Weatherford Aerospace and General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin showcased his meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic.

His service in the United States Army, including two years stationed in New Ulm, Germany, was a period of adventure and cultural immersion. Alvin's military tenure was marked by the discipline and dedication that he later applied to both his career and personal life.

Alvin was a man of deep faith, actively involved at All Saints' Episcopal Church for 30 years. He also attended St. Christopher's Episcopal with his family for 29 years. His faith as a lifelong Christian was as strong as his giant hands; he served both churches in various capacities. He was a member of the TCU Quinq Club and a supporter of the Fort Worth arts. He was a member of the Clan Donald Society, traveled to several Scottish settlements in Texas and enjoyed attending Highland Games and the gathering of the Scottish clans.

Beyond his commitment to his wife and family, Alvin was a man of diverse interests. He was a painter, gardener, leatherworker, woodworker, cook, knife collector, and golfer. His love for travel took him to many places, including his favorite places: Colonial Williamsburg, Santa Fe, NM, and Scotland, a country he was deeply connected to through his Scottish ancestry. He will be remembered for his humor, candor, and sound advice. He will be missed for his dry wit and being quick as he could be with one liners filled with life lessons.

Alvin was a devoted husband to Julianne Tipton Cochran for 63 years. They met in 1956 and married at Trinity Episcopal Church in 1961.

He is survived by his wife Julianne and his three children, John Robert Cochran of Fort Worth, Allison Jahn Cochran Fennell and her husband Leonard of Marion, Texas and Helen Louise Cochran Holmes and her husband Mark of Georgetown, Texas. He is survived by his sister, Florence Fox. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Natalie Anne Cochran (Cameron Forgie), Reeb Cochran and their mother Karen Cochran, Charlie Velasquez (Keiundra), Caroline Holmes, and William Holmes and great grandchild, Jude Forgie. He was Uncle Alvin to Scott Davidenko, Brent and Brian Jackson, and Mark Johnson; Jim Roberts, Betsy Strasbaugh, and Jennifer Snellgrove. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Louis Cochran and Mary Louise Cochran; an infant brother, Robert Louis Cochran Jr.; sisters Marilyn Davidenko and Bobbye Johnson; his niece Carolynne 'Lynne' Royal; and his in-laws Dr. John Tipton and Helen Tipton.

A service to honor Al's life will be held on Saturday, July 20 at 11 o'clock at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South, Fort Worth, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church in his memory or to a charity of one's choice.

Alvin's life was a vivid tapestry of dedication, love, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
