Bill Summers Obituary

Bill Summers

March 7, 2025

Fort Worth, Texas - William Marvin Summers Jr., 73, of Fort Worth, Texas, was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend.

Born on June 18, 1951, Bill spent much of his early years in the Ridglea Hills neighborhood and at the family lake house on Eagle Mountain Lake, where he formed lifelong friendships and created many fun memories.

He graduated from Fort Worth Country Day in 1970 and went on to graduate from the University of Texas, where he cultivated a lasting passion for Texas football.

In 1986, he married the love of his life, Leslie, whom he referred to as his 'vision of loveliness' from the moment they first met. Together they raised two sons, William and Matthew, and built a family grounded in love, adventure, and unwavering support.

Bill found peace being surrounded by nature, whether at the beach or in the mountains. He cherished road trips with his family, exploring the beauty of New Mexico, South Padre Island, and Colorado, as well as countless camping adventures across Texas. Some of Bill's happiest times were spent hiking, skiing, and simply relaxing at the cabin outside of Red River with loved ones.

He shared his experience and passion through his years as Scoutmaster of Troop 720, guiding numerous Scouts-including both of his sons-on their journey to becoming Eagle Scouts. Later, he continued his dedication to fostering youth leadership by helping start a Venture Crew, providing FWCD high school boys and girls with even more opportunities for adventure and personal growth.

Bill had a kind and generous heart, especially when it came to animals. His dogs were his constant companions. He loved spending time with them by the pool or fireplace and sneaking them extra treats. His love of animals extended past his family pets; he had a soft spot for any animal in need.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Leslie Summers; his son William Summers and William's partner, Jenny Johnson; his son Matthew Summers; and his siblings, Susan Summers and Scott Summers. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Summers Sr. and Jeanne Logan Summers.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 20, at 2 p.m. to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to the Humane Society of North Texas, Saving Hope Rescue, the Alzheimer's Association, or the James L. West Center, causes close to his heart.

Bill's compassion, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
