Billy Paul Smith, 76, of Mansfield passed away peacefully with his family beside him on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, 76012, officiated by Rev. Mike Ramsdell. A short graveside service will follow. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to dementia/Alzheimer's research or the Methodist Children's Home in Waco, Texas. Bill was born to the late Taylor and Lucille Smith, June 19, 1937, in Fort Worth. Bill graduated from Eastland High School in Eastland in 1955 and attended Texas Tech University achieving a B.S. and M.S. in industrial engineering by 1963. Bill would also become a certified public accountant later in his career. Bill was married to his beloved wife, Linda, on March 28, 1959, in Lubbock. Bill was employed by CanTex Industries in Mineral Wells for 21 years. Bill started his career at CanTex in 1970 as the data processing manager and would later become the president/CEO before his departure in 1991. Bill later became the president of the R&G Sloane Manufacturing Co. Bill was instrumental in coordinating the consolidation of the corporate offices and three manufacturing facilities on the West Coast to a new office complex and manufacturing facility in Little Rock, Ark., where he and Linda made their home from 1992 to 1995. After retiring, Bill and Linda returned to the DFW area settling in Mansfield in 1995. Bill and Linda are members of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield and longtime supporters of the Methodist Children's Home in Waco. After retiring, Bill spent much of his time honing his golf skills, the game he loved to hate, and perfecting the afternoon nap with his little dog, Murphy. Survivors: Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda, of Mansfield; sons and their respective wives, Mark and Micki Smith of Arlington, Dean and Reesa Smith of North Richland Hills.
