Dr. Wood was my orthodontist while I was in high school in the early 70s. He was always very caring and compassionate. What I didn't know at the time was how outstanding his orthodontic work was as I have not had a problem since. I also was not aware of his remarkable military record, personal accomplishments, and community contributions. I wish I could have thanked him. We lost a great American. My condolences go to his family.

I believe I was one of Dr. Wood's first orthodontic patients. I came to him as a 7th grader with extreme buck teeth and left his care 7 years later with a beautiful smile that has stayed intact through the years. I remember how he would proudly hold my original impressions next to my mouth and show his colleagues the difference. Little did I know he had accomplished so much and had so many interests. I only knew him as a kind doctor who gave me something to smile about the rest of my life. I share the sorrow of his family who certainly will miss him greatly. May God comfort and hold you in His love and the memories of Dr. Wood's life of service.

Gene was one of the first friends I met when I joined DOCA in 1994. We were on a trip to Brazil. That was just one of many trips we made together around the world. Every trip gave me an opportunity to learn more about Gene, his difficult childhood, the War years and his history-making accomplishment, his committment to his education, the remarkable donation of dental services to the Air Force, his total committment to the kids, his patients, and so many more details of a remarkable life. I miss Gene. I will miss him more during the next international DOCA trip. Gene is the only person I have known in my 55 years, who I call a hero. I will always remember you, Gene. Thanks.
