Bob Calvert Obituary

Bob Earl Calvert, 86, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Church Assembly of God, 5301 Altamesa Blvd. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth.
Bob was born Oct. 19, 1922, to Willie and Myrtice Calvert in Winnsboro. Bob began his career as a salesman at the age of 17. He was a door-to-door salesman for many years and a proud owner of Calvert's Department Store in Haltom City until his retirement in 1985.
Bob married the love of his life, Joyce, in 1961. After retirement, they shared their love of camping and fishing with many dear friends and family, especially Pat and Bill Williams. They were devoted members at Grace Temple Church for 37 years and later at Christ Church Assembly of God. Bob served as Sunday school class president and a cheerful host opening the doors to the church for many worshipers of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Myrtice Calvert; sisters, Elsie Mae Smithee and Ruthie Calvert; and brother, Tommy Calvert.
Survivors: Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of 47 years, Joyce Calvert; their daughter, Delaina Meier and her husband, Peter Meier, and their children, Megan and Katelyn Meier; brother, Joe Calvert and his wife, Evelyn; brother-in-law, Elbert Smithee; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

When I think of Bob, I think of his smile, his laugh, and his easy way with any people. He was a welcome face as he greeted people. I've never met anyone who didn't like him. He will be missed greatly. We can rejoice that this separation is just for a short time and we will have eternity together.

You can be proud forever of Bob; I know he loved you deeply. His face would light up and when he was asked about his family. He always spoke of you with a gentleness of spirit, and with love obviously felt from the heart.

What a wonderful heritage he has left for his family and friends as he always was an encouragement in service to the Lord.
Love you all!

We have cherished memories of Bob. His sense of humor, friendliness, faithfulness to the Lord and friends were all a part of who he was. Bob and Joyce were the first to greet us at Grace Temple after our marriage 43 years ago. They guided us spiritually and befriended a young couple on a road of life serving the Lord. Bob, we will always think of you with love.
