Bruce Barchus Obituary

Bruce Michael Barchus

May 4, 1955 - February 1, 2024

Ft Worth, Texas - Bruce Barchus was born in Houston, Texas on May 4,1955 and died on February 1, 2024. He lived briefly in Michigan and then spent 10 years in Wisconsin before moving back to Texas for the rest of his life.

Bruce loved architecture and music. He started playing guitar around 14 years old. His first electric guitar was a candy apple red 1966 Fender Telecaster. He played in many bands, too numerous to name all; Paladin, Punch for starters. He became a rock star in his hometown of Sun Prairie, and then Madison. He quickly became a sought after musician in his career. He moved to Texas and went on to play with Lic, Black Pearl, Honey Hush, TNT, and others.

Bruce also became a craftsman of woodwork. Bruce used his craftsmanship in the revitalization of a few of the historic buildings in the heart of downtown Fort Worth. He did some of the framing for the artwork in the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth.

Bruce was loved by many. He was genuinely kind and gentle, accepting of others. However, his biggest pride and joy was always when he had a guitar in hand, playing from his heart and soul.

Bruce loved barbecuing ribs, always "ready to grill" a Texas size feast.

We will miss our sweet Bruce and can envision him being greeted by a heavenly choir (and his rock and roll, rhythm, jazz and blues musicians who passed before him) and reunited with our family members who preceded Bruce in death; mom Nancy, dad Gale, grandma June, nephew Matthew, and other loved ones who have passed before him. Here's to Bruce, "All You Need is Love".

Bruce is survived by his brother and sisters, Gale Barchus of Texas, Terry Player (Gordon) of Idaho, Nancy Block of New York, Stephanie McDonnell (Tom) of Florida, Rachel Barchus of Texas, Allison Sagewind (Kris) of Nevada, Jessica Gilpin (Joe) of Virginia; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may leave a condolence, share a memory, or photo.

A celebration of life will be held for Bruce at a later date.

I remember Bruce as an amazing guitar player, singer, and entertainer when he played with my brother, Ronnie (Bimbo) King and Brian Carlyss in their band Triad in the Texarkana Shreveport area. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Triad plays again, though, as both Bimbo and Brian have passed, also. Rock on my brother's.

Belated condolences to friends and family of Bruce, a cousin on my mother's side. Our families moved a lot over the years, so we lost touch. About the only thing I knew about Bruce as a teenager and adult was that he was a talented guitarist. I'm attaching a cute 1958 shot of Bruce with my brother Scott Anderson in our Grandpa Syrja's recliner. Scott is a drummer and guitarist, so it's apt that someone (probably my mother) captured this shot of the future musicians together when they were still babies.

I was a `73 classmate and was always jealous that his gorgeous long hair was so much nicer than mine. Rock on, Bruce!

I met Bruce through his older brother, Gale. We were playing in the 3-peice band "Paladin" with Rich Hayne (RIP) when Bruce came to one of our rehearsals and proceeded to blow us all away with his skills on the six-string. We were in need of a really good guitarist and Bruce filled the bill. He was also a great singer. We went on tour, now as PUNCH, and played together until Bruce left the band to join another local band. Gale had already left the band and was replaced by bassist Brian Schiro. Through the years we managed to see each other a few times when Bruce would make it back to Madison and Sun Prairie. I miss his guitar playing and singing and we had many a laugh and good times together in those few years. I have several old recordings of Punch that I've been listening to. RIP Bruce, you are missed by your family and friends.
