Catherine Goggans Obituary

Catherine McCrimmon Goggans

July 12, 1951 - April 28, 2024

Camden, Maine - Catherine McCrimmon Goggans, known as "Cissy" to those closest, lived with a creative spirit. Her colorful murals and watercolors covered the walls of her homes from Texas to the Maine coast which were so often filled with sounds of her Spanish classical guitar. To be with her was to feel this creative energy, charm, and curiosity - a catalyst for many parties, such as her annual Winter Solstice Party. There was hardly a book written or film she didn't have an opinion on and she held a nearly encyclopedic knowledge for history and the arts.

Cissy directed this energy into her family, husband, Dr. Frederick "Rick" Goggans (who predeceased her), and her two sons, Nick (45), and Ryan (33). She grew up in Fort Worth, TX, having many lifelong friendships from Fort Worth Country Day. She left for Windham College in Putney, Vermont. After years in New York, Boston, and San Francisco, studying mime and dance, she was reacquainted with Rick Goggans on a stay in Fort Worth. Soon after she and Rick were married, and they settled in Fort Worth from 1982 to 1999, after his medical training in San Francisco and Palo Alto. In Fort Worth, she was an early board member of the Jubliee Theater, helped in planning the first Zoo Ball, and a member of the Assembly. From Fort Worth she, Rick and Ryan moved to the postcard beauty of Camden, Maine where she loved to tend to her forest, hike the local mountains, kayak in the lake, paint her watercolors from her porch or the pein-air in the summer fields of the Maine countryside, golf at Megunticook Golf Club, and of course her breakfast group, and her reading group, which would often cover the classic works such as her beloved, Iliad.

She leaves behind, sons Nick of Fort Worth and Ryan of Camden, her grandchildren Eliza and Watson, daughter-in-law Brooke; sister Amy Jackson; half-brother, Andrew Gaines; nieces and nephews, Luke, Willie; Chloe, Eva, and Robin; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tinker and Russ Sikes.

She was predeceased by her mother, Marta Chamberlin Gaines; father John K. McCrimmon; husband Dr. Rick Goggans.

What a great picture. Just who she was with that smile and her hats. I´ll miss her laugh and great conversations. One of the sweetest and kindest persons I´ve known. Condolences to Nick and Ryan. You have a great mom. To paraphrase Pericles: it´s not what you leave behind carved in stone but what you leave carved in the hearts of others.

Nick and Ryan ..... I will never forget fun times on Monticello Drive.... But most of all when we arrived in Rockport o our boat and called your mother to say hi and nothing would do but that she jumped in the car and arrived at the harbor to take us back to your house to cook steaks... it was so good to be with you all as we were far from home! There was no one like hercaro

Nick and Ryan, this message is for you. I´m so glad to have shared time with such a wonderful woman as was your mother. Same goes for your wonderful dad. The times I travelled with them to California and with your dad to Hawaii are cherished memories. Our sadness is profound. Brent Hyder
