Mickey was born Oct. 13, 1948, in Marks, Miss., to Maxwell and Ruth Wood. He attended the University of Mississippi and graduated from Northwest Mississippi College. He was a member of Gabe P. Allen Masonic Lodge #1352 in Dallas. Mickey entered the lumber business in 1970 and was instrumental in the early development of manufactured residential building units. Starting in 1974, he managed retail lumber operations for a national buildings material company, becoming a regional manager responsible for the Southeastern states. In 1978, he and partners began acquiring lumber operations throughout the U.S., culminating with the personal acquisition of Oldham Lumber Co. in 1981 and Richardson Lumber and Manufacturing in 2001. He was active in the operation of both at the time of his death. He was a past director of the Lumbermen's Association of Texas. Mickey loved ranching and the time he and Marilyn spent with their horses and longhorns and their dog, Scrappy. Twice they hosted at their ranch in Lindale the Cattle Barons Gala supporting the American Cancer Society. He served as a national director for the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America and was an active member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the National Cutting Horse Association and the National Thoroughbred Association. He was also involved in numerous real estate developments in Texas and New Mexico.
In 2001, Mickey and Marilyn moved to New Mexico, which they quickly came to love. They made many new and close friends, became active in the Ruidoso community, where they had just begun building a new home. Mickey was currently serving on the boards of Alto Lakes Golf Country Club and Spencer Theater of Performing Arts in Ruidoso. He was loving and caring, and provided strength and support for his family.
His mother, Ruth; his brother, Donald; and his first wife, Katherine, preceded him in death.
Mickey was a loyal and generous person to many good friends and business associates who will miss him dearly.

I am so sorry concerning the loss of your best friend and husband, Mickey. Jim and I always enjoyed being with you both at longhorn functions. Mickey always had a wonderful smile for everyone. The Lord has blessed you. You have loved and been loved and that will continue. My prayer is that through this difficult time that you would not only know the Lord's presence, but feel His peace as well. May you feel His understanding and comfort and love when others hug you. May the Lord be your trust and comfort.

Kim and I were both in shock when we heard the news about Mickey. He was the kind of guy you always wanted to spend more time with, and now that he is gone, you feel lucky to have known him. Mickey was a good man and a great person, and I am not sure if even Mickey knows what a positive impact he had on everyone that he met.

Dear Marilyn and family ... All of us in Indian Territory were shocked and saddened to learn of the loss of Mickey. He was truly one of the 'good old boys' He was always so upbeat, cheerful and easy going. He was one of those that made it a pleasure to attend Texas Longhorn events. We always enjoyed the sales he put on at Linden, TX You have our deepest sympathy and regards. Steve and Jane Douglas, Ardmore, OK

What great memories we treasure: on the ski slopes of 3 states, at the ranch, at the lake, and in Rui Dosa. Marilyn, as we celebrate Mickey's life, you are in our thoughts and prayers.
