North Richland Hills, Texas - Charlie Henry Harper entered into rest on January 28, 2022.
Born on April 25, 1928, in Elberton,Georgia to Rosa and Julian Harper, he was the 6th of their 13 children.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Julian and Rosa, brothers Ernest, Willie, James, Julian Jr., Joe, Richard, Robert and Luther; sisters Lila, Rosa, and Magnolia; and son Victor.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister Janie, daughter Wilda (Dave) Holzemer, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, as well as his church family.
Charlie proudly and selflessly served his country in times of war and times of peace in the United States Army as well as the United States Air Force. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years. While serving, Charlie traveled to many countries of the world. Of all the places he visited, he shared that Thailand was his favorite.
Charlie formed the singing group "The Southern Travelers". He was a talented musician, playing multiple instruments and had a beautiful singing voice. Charlie and The Southern Travelers performed in a Battle of Songs with the Five Blind Boys. His favorite song was Amazing Grace.
Charlie was a patient man of few words. He loved to fish and enjoyed showing others his catch.
Charlie confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior. He was a faithful member of The New Rising Star Baptist Church for more than 50 years where he continued his selfless lifestyle by serving on the deacon board and teaching Sunday School.
Papa Charlie (and Mama Susie) loved going to church and were true examples and inspired faithfulness to all who knew them.
