Cirino Marcos Obituary

Cirino Rosa Marcos

May 15, 1930 - January 1, 2025

Fort Worth, Texas - Cirino (Cy) Rosa Marcos passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, in Fort Worth, TX. Cy was born May 15, 1930, in Lawrence, MA to Cirino Marcos and Alice Rosa Marcos. His father, who immigrated from Graciosa Island in the Azores, Portugal, later married Alice, also of proud Portuguese heritage. Cy shared a childhood filled with love and adventures alongside his brothers John and Manuel (Manny).

At 17, Cy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Wichita Falls, TX. An exceptional talent for playing the trumpet earned him a place in the Air Force Band where he performed, bringing joy and camaraderie to those around him. During this time Cy also began cutting his fellow servicemen's hair, sparking a passion that would later define his professional journey. After an honorable discharge in 1951, he found his true calling as a barber and entrepreneur.

Cy's career was marked by extraordinary milestones. By age 36, he served as Director of Barber and Beauty Services at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth and chaired the Education Committee for the Association of Master Barbers and Beauticians. In 1966, his exemplary contributions were recognized when he was named Barber of the Year and awarded the prestigious Silver Cup. In 1970, his leadership and vision led to his election as President of the Association.

Cy was a pioneer, transforming the barbering profession into a men's hairstyling industry across Texas. His dedication to education included sponsoring trade and style shows featuring icons such as Paul Mitchell. He honed his craft in Europe, becoming an instructor specializing in men's hairstyling, coloring, and grooming, including tailored services for individuals with disabilities.

In 1975, Cy fulfilled a lifelong dream, purchasing and renovating a historic mansion built in 1895 by cattle baron F. G. Oxsheer which became "Cy's Salon", with clients greeted by Cy's beloved Doberman Pinschers, dressed in their stylish attire.

Cy's personal passions were as vibrant as his professional life. He was an aficionado of wine, food, dogs, classical music, opera, and jazz. He loved reading, cooking, hunting, and fishing at his Possum Kingdom Lake cabin and the Amazon River in Brazil to chase the elusive Peacock Bass. His passion for gardening earned him accolades, including "Yard of the Month" at the age of 90. Cy will be remembered for his quick-witted sense of humor and infamous one-liners.

Cy is survived by his devoted wife, Connie Marcos, children Alicia (Bill) Birong and Victor Marcos; stepchildren, Linda Lees (Bill) Vogel and Lisa Lees; grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Fishel, Carey (Jodi) Flynn, Coleman Marcos and Lauren Vogel; great-grandchildren, Andrew Flynn and Sophie Fishel; and brother Manny (Sharron) Marcos. Cy was preceded in death by his parents Cirino and Alice, as well as his brother John Marcos and wife, Monica. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Klarus Hospice, Leticia Flores, caregivers and friends who lovingly supported Cy and the family in his final days.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Rita Catholic Church, 5550 E. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76112. Interment will follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas, TX 75211. Ci was the best man at our wedding in 1976. My husband Jesse Shetter worked at Harris Hospital and became a very close friend of his. We loved Ci and often wondered how to get in touch with him. My husband passed in 2024. I hope that he and my husband will get to see each other again. Ci was a very special man. I am sorry for your loss.

Cy was our neighbor and a great guy! He was quiet, but handy with a kind word or a joke. His friendship was a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Cy.
