Has it been ten years, already? Dink will always be with me, in my memories, whispering good counsel in my mind's ear.

I was sad to hear of Dinky's passing and give my condolence to his family and friends. The comments and pictures from his friends were flashbacks. The pictures of Dinky at Worth Ranch brought back great memories. Dinky and I worked at Worth Ranch for several years in the “50”'s and later in Explore Scouts and the Order of the Arrow. I attribute by early education in critical thinking to Dinky. He introduced me to books (i.e. The True Believer by Eric Hoffer), music, and ideas which have served me well then and now. I am glad our paths crossed and I wish they had crossed more often.

I was introduced to Dink in 1980 when I was the Nishkin lodge historian and a very young Assistant Scoutmaster. He shared with me many stories of his trials and tribulations as the first lodge chief in forming a working relationship with the adult council executives --- very interesting sideline stories but not for the lodge history book. He also offered me much advice without my asking back then, and quoted frequently from Gracian's Manual by paragraph number and verse. I guess I finally graduated from Dink's school of gentleman's refinement because after about ten years he quit offering me advice every time he saw me. He will be missed very much, but his legend will live on in those he has helped over the many many years. I share some of the photographs I restored for him.

Dinky and my brother, Bill Meals, were good friends back in the day, when they were students at North Side High School. I think Charlie Eklund's description of Dinky as unique may say it best. Who else would give copies of "Vogue's Book of Etiquette" and Boccaccio's "Decameron" to one of his friends as birthday gifts? As I said, he and Bill were good friends and in Boy Scouts together, and I always enjoyed his visits to our house.
May he rest in peace, as I know he will, and may all of his many friends and family find comfort in that knowledge.

Dink was prepared for eternity, as much as any man. But, whether the Almighty was ready for Dink ... well, that's another matter.

A most interesting man to meet. Always had a smile and a story to tell. Prayers and peace to his family.

Boulevardier is the perfect term to describe Dink. He will be missed by a lot of people.

Dink Starns, you will be missed.

Dictionary.com's primary definition of the word "unique" is "existing as the only one or as the sole example". The secondary definition is "having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable".

I believe both of these defintions apply, in equal measure, to Dink. Requiescat in pace, Dink.
