Connor Gage Obituary

On Friday night, Aug. 31, 2012, Connor was at a birthday party away from home with friends at Possum Kingdom Lake when he jumped off a high boat dock. Flipping in the air, he landed face first on his front side. Upon landing, Connor was stunned or knocked unconscious, and drown. He was not wearing a life jacket. He was 15 years old. Memorial service: Connor's memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at The Hills Church of Christ in North Richland Hills. Videos honoring Connor can be found on YouTube by searching "Connor Gage." Memorials: May be made to The Connor Gage Memorial Scholarship Fund, Fort Worth Christian School, 6200 Holiday Lane, North Richland Hills, Texas 76180. Connor Kelly Gage was born April 18, 1997, in Arlington to Brett and Dana Wilson Gage. Connor had a zest for life, even as a young child. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. His brother, Riley Scott, was his best friend. They loved, laughed, sang, pranked, and enjoyed each other. They also worshipped the Lord together and were baptized on Sept. 12, 2004, together. Connor lived in Arlington and attended Larson Elementary School where he made amazing friends who remained close to him even after his family moved to North Richland Hills in 2009. In seventh grade, Connor started attending Fort Worth Christian where he excelled in academics as a National Junior Honor Society member. Connor played baseball, basketball and football, but his true love was running. Connor was 2011 District Champion in the mile and District Cross Country Champ in the fall. This year, Connor was running varsity cross country as a freshman. On Friday, Aug. 31, the day Connor died, he ran in a cross country track meet, placing 16th in a field of more than 100 runners. His big brother finished third, Connor was always following in his brother's footsteps. Connor loved to go golfing with his mom and his wonderful Uncle Steve. He loved tubing, wakeboarding and long-boarding. He loved listening to music, especially Musiq Soulchild and Kirk Franklin. He and his brother, Riley, spent many, many hours playing video games in their man cave. And, of course, he loved tweeting and texting, and you would never find him without his phone. Connor enjoyed hanging out with his friends as well as his girlfriend, Ashleigh. Connor was also a shoes and socks guy. He loved skate shoes, particularly Vans. He always made sure that his shoes and socks matched . . . very important! Connor loved his church, and attended The Hills Church of Christ in North Richland Hills. He was a regular at 24:7 youth group, went on several mission trips and attended camps where he loved to play spades with his buddies. Connor was preceded in death by Dana's parents, Richard and Dee Wilson, and Dana's brother, Steve Wilson. Survivors: His parents, Brett and Dana; brother, Riley, all of North Richland Hills; grandparents, Tom and Ann Gage of Stillwater, Okla., and Stan and Barbara Baxter of Weatherford, Okla.; his aunts and uncles, Lane Wilson of Sentinel, Okla., Robbie and Brooke Gage of Tulsa, Okla., Andy and Lauren Gage of Denver, Colo.; and a host of cousins, Chuck, Heather, Grant, Katie, Annaleigh, Bowen, Madison, Gianna and Devin. Connor also leaves behind an amazing group of extended family and friends who will never forget him.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is hard to find the family values your family had. I don't know you all but from the you tube videos I can tell that you all were united in Gods grace. Parents always there for your children. He was so lucky to have that with the rate of broken families. God Bless you all I pray that more families can take a lesson in how families are supposed to be.

October 6, 2012

Hello again, I posted a few weeks back, but I got an update in my in-box, so the Lord once again brought you all to mind. I have a son, Bret, who is 17 (Riley's age perhaps), who just lost his older brother tragically 18 months ago . . . Luke passed away in March 2011, and he went to Faith Christian school. I know Bret would perhaps want to connect with your son, as they're both the same age and both have lost their best friends--their brothers--who were wonderful, Christian boys, pursuing Christ in everything. I know everything is so raw and fresh right now and that you're still reeling, but if perhaps the boys could connect in the future, that maybe God could use it to help mend their hearts --at least just a little. My e-mail is [email protected] -- I'm continuing to pray for your family -- from a mom who's still walking that path of grief while holding tight to God's hand. In love and symphathy, Karen Steinmann

Dana (bigfoot Wilson), I just found out about the loss of your wonderful son. I cannot begin to imagine the sorrow you must feel. He is not alone in heaven though. I know that he is with his heavenly family,Richard, Dee and Steve. And I know that they were all at the gates of heaven waiting to take him inside to God. And I know that they are all rejoicing that he is there with them. I know that there is nothing I can say to help ease the pain, but know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Words cannot express how sad my family and I am for you all. Though we did not know your handsome son I will always remember him. Especially when we are at our place at Possum Kingdom. I cannot look at that area of the lake (next door) and not feel a twinge of sorrow for you all. Please know that Connor and you all will be in our thoughts and prayers for years to come. Sincerely, Leesa Wachsman and Family (Wichita Falls, TX)

I never knew Connor, but was often at FWC for football games while I attended Covenant Christian Academy in Colleyville.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family. It's heartbreaking to lose someone so young, yet comforting to know he was going home to be with God. I'm so sorry for the loss of someone who was clearly very, very special. Rest in peace Connor.

I am so very sorry for his death.I know God will be taking good care of you. Also stay strong Connor's family and Connor's Girlfriend. He may be gone but he will always be in your hearts, never forget that. My prayers go out to him tonight. R.I.P Connor Kelly Gage.<3

Hello . . . I've never met you before, but I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Karen Steinmann, and my son Luke Steinmann, who was a senior at Faith Christian School, passed away a year and a half ago. Although each tragedy is unique and the loss so profound, I do know somewhat of all you're experiencing . . . we're still "in the thick" of our grief--the pain is all-too raw--but I would like to reach out to your family, if I may. Please e-mail me at [email protected], if you'd like to connect, either now or in the coming months. It would help me, I think, as much as helping you. I also have a son, Cory, who is Connor's age. I'm praying for you all. With the deepest, heart-felt sympathy, Karen

We are a family that is new to Fort Worth Christian. Our son Luke was fortunate to have met Connor, hanging out after school, playing basketball, the day before he died. We can promise you that Connor had a positive impact on Luke that will last the rest of his life. So short, but so powerful.

We attended the funeral. Most funerals serve the purpose of providing strength to the family of the departed. But, in this case, it was our family that gained tremendous strength from your family. It is our hope that this strength continues to uphold your family as time goes on.

To all of the Gage family,

I had the honor of meeting this young man exactly one week ago. He was a great kid. I remember part of our talk was about how excited he was for an upcoming run. His smile is unmistakable, his kindness was from the bottom of his heart, and he is in a better place. God blessed yall with 15 amazing years with this young man, and I am glad to say that I had the honor of meeting him before his early passing. I know my heart and my familys' heart goes out to you. God said "I'll lend a little child to you to care for awhile, I cannot promise how long you'll have the pleasure of his smile, He'll bring you joy beyond your dreams but if his stay is brief, There will be lovely memories to somehow ease your grief. From all the others I've chosen you to love him as I've planned, but if I have to call him home, please try to understand."
