Cynthia Ray Obituary

Cynthia Sherrod Ray died Saturday evening, Aug. 25, 2012, battling ovarian cancer. Memorial service: 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m., prior to the service. Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 2501 Oak Lawn Ave., Ste. 435, Dallas, Texas 75219. Cynthia Diane Sherrod was born March 31, 1948, in Fort Worth, to Robert W. and Frances Olson Sherrod. A 1966 graduate of Nolan Catholic High School, Cynthia earned a bachelor of science in medical technology from TCU in 1971. She then began a longtime career with Harris Methodist Fort Worth. There she formed deep bonds with those she worked with and those she cared for, recently being honored for her work of more than 40 years. Cynthia's life was centered around her family and her home, hosting all family gatherings, decorating, serving wonderful food, keeping everyone together. She adored her children and they remember her "amazing selfless love." Together with Randy, they enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. including winters skiing in Colorado with the children, and organizing a family trip to Hawaii. She and her daughter, Katherine, loved their shopping and spa days, and they all loved to meet frequently for dinner out in Dallas and Fort Worth. She is remembered as a very strong, smart and hard-working woman. The family is grateful to the staff of Harris Methodist Fort Worth for the wonderful care of Cynthia. She was preceded in death in 2010 by her father, Bob Sherrod, a famed guard for the 1938 TCU National Championship Football team and a beloved coach for many Fort Worth high schools. Survivors: Husband of 23 years, Randy Ray; children, Robert Brent Chism, Jeremy Michael Chism and wife, Michelle, and Katherine Elliott Harsha and her husband, Bradley; grandsons, Mads Chism and soon-to-be born Jonathan Harsha; mother, Frances Sherrod; brother, Robert W. Sherrod Jr.; and uncle, Joe Sherrod.

I wish I had the words to express just how beautiful of a person Cynthia was inside and out. I will never forget her kind words and her loving nature. Her family is in my thoughts and prayers. In her last conversation with me, she said, "stop and smell the roses". The Cynthia I knew was pretty good at that.
