Don Musgrove Obituary

Don W. Musgrove, 80, of Fort Worth and Rockport passed away Monday, May 28, 2012. He died peacefully, surrounded by his sons. Service: In keeping with Don's wishes, there will be no funeral. His ashes will be scattered over the grave of his mother, Avo Ray, in Clairette. Don graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1948 and East Texas State University in 1952, where he excelled in track and field. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in Fort Worth as a lieutenant colonel after serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. Fittingly, he drew his final breath as Taps was being played on a televised Memorial Day service. Don selflessly devoted his golden years to caring for his wife of 56 years, Marygene, who died of Alzheimer's in 2007. He was a devoted husband and father who enjoyed fishing at his home in Rockport. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to call him friend. Survivors: Sons, Marc, Mike and Mitch Musgrove; daughters-in-law, Carrie Musgrove and Michele Mellon; and grandchildren, Matthew Musgrove, Stephen Musgrove and Mary Herechuk.

I was Don´s navigator at Carswell AFB during the `69-`70 trip to Vietnam. Without doubt Don was one of the best pilots I ever flew with. Don was also fun to fly with. A great guy too! I knew Marygene´s family through Tucker´s Grocery store in Ruidoso, NM. Condolences to their sons and families.

I was is co-pilot for several years. He was one of the best pilots I'll ever know. I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye.

It was with sadness that we learned of Don's passing. He made some ripples in the languid Adams Family landscape but all grew to love him and to appreciate his intellect, wit, and most especially, his devotion to and tender care of Marygene. Jamie & Rick Hamm

Don was a very "Special" person. He will be missed by both family and friends. I can never thank Don enought for the care he gave Marygene, my cousin, during the last years of her life.
