Fort Worth, Texas - Donald Ray Barnard, 91, of Fort Worth, Texas went home to Jesus on September 2, 2023. Don was a long-time resident of Fort Worth and member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church.
He was born May 21, 1932 in Hubbard, Texas to Solomon Peter and Eddie Eva Barnard. He grew up in the Hubbard area with his brothers JE, Drue, and Durwood. Don graduated from Beaumont High School in 1950 and enlisted in the US Air Force.
In 1952 while serving at Pope AFB, he met his true love, Peggy, on a blind date. One date led to many and in 1954, they were married in Durham, NC. They soon moved to Fort Worth and raised their two children, Allen and Cheryl.
While working at Chicago Pneumatic Tool as a machinist, Don earned an accounting degree from Texas Christian University. In 1961, he joined what eventually became Texas New Mexico Power Company as an accountant. For most of his tenure, he served as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer. He was a member of the Edison Electric Institute and a charter member of the Ft Worth chapter of the Financial Executives Institute. As members of Travis Avenue Baptist Church since 1954, Don and Peggy served the Lord faithfully by delivering flowers, volunteering on committees, and singing with the Praise Singers.
Don was always happiest when surrounded by family. He loved playing card games and dominoes and loving on his grandkids. He was a true Horned Frog – he loved all things TCU.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Joyce Hall Barnard; his parents, Solomon Peter and Eddie Eva Barnard; and his brothers Joseph Eugene (JE) Barnard, Robert Drue Barnard, and Sol Durwood Barnard. He is survived by his son Don Allen Barnard (Julie Barnard); daughter Cheryl Barnard Ratley (Ricky Ratley); grandchildren Emily Barnard Purcell (Brad Purcell), Dr. Sarah Barnard Mitchell (Dr. Nathan Mitchell), John Phillip Ratley (Sofie Ratley), and Matthew Ellison Ratley (Melanie Ratley); and great-grandchildren Luke Purcell, Emma Purcell, Kate Purcell, Halle Ratley, and Benjamin Mitchell; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Homes, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, TX on September 22 at 2:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Fort Worth, TX.
