Doris Frost Obituary

Doris Marwil Frost, 86, a civic volunteer, avid bridge player and the mother of long-time Texas Congressman Martin Frost, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, from the effects of a stroke suffered on April 1.

Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Temple Beth-El-Wulfe Sanctuary, 211 Belknap, San Antonio.

Doris Marwil Frost was an avid bridge player, and attained the distinction of life master almost 50 years ago. For many years, she was a bridge instructor and director of duplicate bridge games in California, where her late husband worked as an aerospace engineer prior to his retirement. Mrs. Frost devoted thousands of hours to working as a volunteer for a variety of civic organizations, including the Lighthouse for the Blind, the Council of Jewish Women and Golden Manor Retirement Home. Mrs. Frost's son, Martin Frost, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 24th District of Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth areas) from 1979 to January of this year.

Doris Frost was born and grew up in Henderson where her father, M.H. Marwil, served as mayor for two terms. She earned a B.A. in education from the University of Texas, where she met her husband, who was from San Antonio. Her father-in-law, Joe Frost, was co-founder of Frost Brothers Department Store. They lived in Southern California during World War II, moved to San Antonio following the war, then moved to Fort Worth in 1949, when Jack took a job with Convair Aircraft (now Lockheed-Martin). They moved back to Southern California in 1962, and retired to San Antonio in 1979.

Doris and Jack traveled extensively until Jack's death in 1995. Mrs. Frost was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan and died 30 minutes after their playoff victory on Sunday. She also spent many hours watching tennis on television.

Mr. Marwil was a close friend of the Lasseter's, Henderson, Tex. thus we enjoyed meeting Doris and later on, her entire family. What a serendipity! We'll cherish happy memories.
