Dorothy Cravens Obituary

Dorothy Diane Cravens
May 29, 1939 - August 10, 2022
Arlington, Texas - Dorothy Diane Davis Cravens, 83, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Arlington surrounded by her family.
Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27, at First Presbyterian Church, 1200 S. Collins St., Arlington.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Junior League of Arlington, 4002 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76013.
Diane was born on May 29, 1939 in San Antonio to Fred W. Davis and Irene Marie Jones Davis. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas and the University of Texas at Austin where she met Tom Cravens. Diane and Tom were married in 1963 and then moved to Arlington where they would go on to begin their family and raise three wonderful children. Diane and Tom quickly made Arlington their home, following in the footsteps of Tom's parents, Jimmie and Carlisle Cravens.
Upon arriving to Arlington, Diane soon realized there were not many organizations for women and began reaching out to other women and community members to establish organizations such as the following: Delta Delta Delta chapter at UT Arlington, Junior Woman's Club, Service League of Arlington which later became the Junior League of Arlington, the Regency, Callisto, Kaleidoscope, and Karousel Dance Clubs for Junior High and High School students, and was a founding member of Women Inspiring Philanthropy. She also opened the family home for The Women's Division of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Tour of Homes for three tours. To enjoy time with some friends, Diane also put together a large group called NGA that got together monthly to enjoy food, fun and fellowship.
Diane was an active volunteer with the Arlington Historical Society Board of Directors, Arlington and Fort Worth Junior Leagues, Fine Arts League, Arlington Art Museum Exhibit Committee, Arlington Public Schools and Fleetwood Memorial Foundation where she was Executive Director for many years. She also served as a Deacon for First Presbyterian Church in Arlington.
In recognition of her service, Diane received numerous awards including The Debbie Duer Award from the Junior League of Arlington, Women's Alliance Hero Award, numerous certificates of appreciation from many Arlington Public Schools, candidate for The Women's Shelter "Legacy of Women Award" and was the inaugural recipient of the "Hero Award" for her service to the Women's Alliance - Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
Diane lived her life for her God, her family, her friends and her community; always having a kind word and act of service ready to go. A home cooked dinner was on the table everynight at 5:30pm and everyone was always welcome! Even as her beautiful mind and brave body began to tire, her sweet smile and loving words were always present.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Irene Davis.
Survivors: Husband, Tom Cravens; daughter, Mary Tom Cravens Curnutt and husband, Kelly Curnutt and their three sons, Donovan Mabra, Riley Curnutt and his wife, Beth, and Tommy Curnutt; daughter, Kyndal Nicol and husband, Todd Nicol and their three children, Davis Nicol, Max Nicol and Abby Nicol; son, Carlisle Cravens and his wife, Lisa and their three children, Mary Nelle Cravens, Edie Cravens and Coleman Cravens; and one sister, Peggy Henger.

What a beautiful testimony to a beautiful woman. She always welcomed us to her home with a smile and nice word. Diane was like a second mother to me, and there is no part of my life that I cannot remember her being there. She will be sorely missed by all but forgotten by none. I know we will meet again, so it´s not goodbye but see you later.

DIABE was such a good friend at Highland a park High School and we were sorority sisters at UT Austin. She was always so sweet and full of energy which evidently carried through her whole adult life.
