Dustin Salter Obituary

The Rev. Dustin R. Salter, 37, a campus minister with Reformed University Fellowship, went to be with Jesus on Monday, March 19, 2007, in Fort Worth as the result of a traumatic brain injury sustained in a bicycle accident Nov. 8, 2006, in Greenville, S.C.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Fort Worth Presbyterian Church. Private burial: 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, in Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Silas, Ala. Visitation: 1 p.m. Friday at Fort Worth Presbyterian Church.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Fort Worth Presbyterian Church (PCA), designated for Street Children Ministry, India, Box 16307, Fort Worth, Texas 76162.

Dustin started the RUF campus ministry at Texas Christian University and served for eight years after graduating from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla. Dustin's 6'5" frame and loud joyful laugh made him a well-known figure on the TCU campus. He was often spotted in nearby coffee shops and restaurants sharing the gospel with students. In June 2006, Dustin and his family moved to Greenville, S.C., where he served as a campus minister at Furman University.

Many came to understand the doctrines of grace and justification under Dustin's leadership. As Dustin frequently reminded us, "You are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace, and you are never so good that you don't stand in need of God's grace."

His passions included a good cup of coffee, a movie any night of the week, love for his family, cold weather and trips to Boone, N.C.

Leigh Ann and family,

I am very sorry for your loss and and hope you find comfort in the faith you and Dustin shared. I spent a lot of time with him from the time we met in junior high till he left our junior year. I always think of him and the time we shared together. He was the most caring and loving friend I have ever had. I always knew he would be successful in whatever path he chose and you and your children are proof of what a good person he really was...he had a great impact in my life and that is all anyone can ask for. Once again he was a success! It is funny to read about how much he loved going to the movies. Some things never change. God bless you and your family.

There are not many men that you have in your life that you say I love you. We shared that bond through many trials and great tribulations. I will always be thinking about the times I was able to share with him and the happiness he brought into my life.

Dustin will always have a special place in my heart. We spent a many an afternoon together studying at the Sweetwater Coffee Company in Altamonte Springs, Florida during our tenure at Reformed Theological Seminary. Dustin and I shared that mission field with a handful of other seminarians and faculty members. Dustin exuded the joy and love of Jesus. Dustin was a real scholar who had a passion for Jesus and an ability to share the faith with people from all walks of life. I was often in awe of his ability to speak with the middle school students at our church and then shift gears to challenge the theological acumen of his peers and teachers, always with grace. Another warrior has entered his eternal rest...Dustin's post in the advancement of Christ's Kingdom will be an extremely difficult one to fill. You will be missed brother...

I only spoke with Dustin one time -and then when I had a concern about a student that I was hoping God would send his way! Dustin was so understanding of my concern for this covenant child. I am so sorry for your loss, Leigh Ann and for the loss of a father to the children. Know that in God's infinite wisdom and sovereign grace, He will meet the needs in your lives--not understood by man, but provided by the Great Conmforter. I will be praying for you all. Blessings,

I don't know what it is like to lose someone under the circumstances that you have. But whenever someone you love so deeply is gone, there is an empty spot. I pray God's peace will fill the void and comfort you and the children as only HE can! You are in our prayers!

Leigh Anne & family,

The Salters arrived at TCU during my senior year at TCU. I befriended Dustin and served alongside in ministry in Fort Worth for several years while I was on Young Life staff at Paschal High School. I frequently would bump into Dustin at all the TCU area hotspots. Whether it be Chipotle, Jon's Grille, I was also excited to see Dustin ministering to students. He was definitely an encourager, a truth-speaker, and a man who desired to see the glory of God. Dustin was one of kind.

Leigh Anne and family,

I only met Dustin once at Woodruff Rd. Pres. Church in Simpsonville, SC during our missions conference. Our family shared dinner with him, and that one meeting was enough to convince us of Dustin's passion for the Lord and his family. Although we have never met, our hearts have grieved with you and prayed for you and your children since the day of the accident. Your short stay in Greenville touched many lives and you will not be forgotten.
