Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin David Powe, officiating. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.
Burial: 2:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery, Walnut Springs.
Memorials: A local animal shelter.
Elena Alvarez was born Feb. 12, 1958, in Fort Worth. A graduate of TCU, she served for seven years as a community supervision officer for Dallas County, before which she was a municipal court clerk in Fort Worth, Forest Hill, River Oaks and Coppell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benancio R. Alvarez and Elia Pena Villarreal Alvarez, and her brother, Arturo Alvarez.
Survivors: Very dear friend, Mark Pluskey; brothers and sisters, Hilda Newton, and her husband, Larry, Amanda Salazar, and her husband, Manuel, Ricardo Alvarez, and Benancio Alvarez Jr., and his wife, Delia, all of Fort Worth; aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews including Arturo Alvarez Jr., whom she treated as a brother; and her special pets, Dooney and Miss P.

Elena's friends at the City of Coppell were shocked and devastated to learn of Elena's passing. Although it has been several years since Elena worked here, I remember her fondly as a really sweet and upbeat person. Although I do not know what happened to Elena, I know that she did not deserve to go this young.
