Dr. Huey was among the finest teachers on the faculty at SWBTS.
His classroom material was well organized, well delivered, and
he always fully covered the subject he was teaching. He was my
Hebrew teacher, dissertation supervisor, and I thank the good
Lord above that I was blessed to know him.

I am saddened for the family's loss, but I rejoice that Dr. Huey has concluded his earthly journey, a long and full life, and has now heard those words: "well done, good and faithful servant." He was that indeed and so much more.
I had the privilege to serve as Dr. Huey's research assistant for one year. My task was to catalogue by text and subject every article in his long selected list of academic journals. I did that with note cards, pre digital time period. Through my overviewing thousands of articles, I learned an enormous amount of information about Old Testament authors and themes.
Dr. Huey guided me through my PhD dissertation in Hebrew History. I received that degree the same year that he retired, 1990. He was so gracious in his direction and re-direction. I experienced Dr. Huey as a brilliant professor, an humble scholar, and an extremely kind and sweet gentleman.
I am now retired after serving 50 years as a Pastor. During most of those years, I have had the privilege of being an Adjunct Professor in Old Testament for six Baptist institutions. I am in great debt to Dr. Huey who inspired me, challenged me, encouraged me, taught me, and enlightened me. I will be forever grateful.

Dr. Huey was my Hebrew professor (MDiv) and later my PhD dissertation professor. He was a giant among men and one of the best Bible teachers I had at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was not only my mentor, but above all, he was my friend. At a low point in my PhD studies, I was ready to give up, but Dr. Huey never gave up on me and talked me into staying on. As a result of his encouragement, I received my doctorate the same year he retired from full time teaching. I am praying for all of his family during this time.
