Frances Shupe Obituary

Frances Valine Shupe née Freeman, 86, beloved wife and mother, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at her home in Evant, Texas. She was preceded by her husband of 62 remarkable years, Bill E. Shupe. She was a woman of deep faith, grace, and enduring warmth.

Frances was born on August 21, 1939, in Hamilton, Texas, to Elton and Claudie (Morgan) Freeman. She grew up in Arlington, Texas, graduating from Arlington High School in 1958. After raising three children, she earned a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Arlington.

She taught elementary music for many years at Burleson ISD. After retiring, she was involved in several charities, including chairing a committee at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ to fund and build low cost housing for seniors.

Frances was a gifted music teacher who inspired countless students, and a talented artist whose creativity expressed itself in many forms. Her bountiful garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit.

Frances was a natural storyteller, imparting memories with detail and warmth that kept the past alive. Her singing was a constant presence in worship, in the home, and in the lives of everyone around her.

Frances is survived by her 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a sister, 2 brothers, and a cherished circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and lifelong friends who will carry her spirit forward. She leaves behind not just a legacy, but a light.

As a sister, too many memories to even begin. Always one year ahead of me, I always wanted to do what she could do. But for a whole lifetime I was one year younger and I always admired the things she accomplished. So many laughs together, so many moments of sadness shared without words. We understood each other and that meant the world since we were separated by large distances for most of our adult lives. Your light shines, Frances. It shines in your family, your work, your friends, your many good works, your trust in the promises of Christ, your love and your kindnesses to all. Always in my heart until the time of whatever reunion lies ahead.
