Mr. Gist was my Government teacher at Trimble Tech. His daughter Cheryl and I were friends and graduated together in 1982. Mr. Gist was one of my favorite teachers while at Tech. As so many before me have already mentioned, I loved the stories that he read to us from Reader's Digest. Those stories inspired kindness, hope, and love in our young hearts. I still smile today thinking about the fact that Mr. Gist never called me by my correct name. Even though I know he knew my name, he always called me Sondra. Mr. Gist was a blessing to every student who had the honor of having him as a teacher. I learned only today of Mr. Gist's passing and I am sending my thoughts, prayers, and love to Cheryl and Mrs. Gist. Thank you both for sharing such a wonderful man with all of us at Trimble Tech for so many years!

I am so sorry to hear the loss of my great teacher at TTHS. I met his wife and daughter at his home and chatted. He was a great history teacher. He was so funny and humor in class. It was hard for me without an interpreter and I have to watch what he said and write on chalkboard. He decided to give me the note to save my time after class. That was really nice of him.

Class of (supposed to be 1977) 1978.

A wonderful mentor. One of my favorite memories was his reading of Reader's Digest stories aloud to students while they were taking tests. In 84 they outlawed school prayer, he always read the stories where God saved people from near death...He was planting seeds in the hearts of young people of hope and that God loved them. An amazingly humble man with a heart to reach kids...what an amazing legacy! If the only riches we take to Heaven with us are people we led to Christ..He will have thousands to lay at the feet of Jesus. Blessings on the family in your time of grief...A thankful Trimble Tech graduate of 1985.
