Gene Dimock Obituary

Gene Edward Dimock

August 29, 1936 - September 11, 2025

Joshua, Texas - Gene Edward Dimock, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Joshua, Texas, on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with his loving wife, Julie (Bradshaw) and other family members by his side.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Joshua Methodist Church, 114 Paula St. Joshua, Texas 76058; with a brief visitation one hour prior to service beginning at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will follow at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth.

Gene was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 29, 1936, to the late Charles Edward and Mary Alberta (Hostetter) Dimock. He grew up on the East Side and graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1954. He later began college at his beloved Texas A&M, before graduating with a business degree from the University of North Texas. A proud U.S. Marine, Gene entered Officer Candidates School in Quantico, VA, before training to fly the supersonic F-8 Crusader. After his tour in the USMC, Gene spent his life as a commercial pilot with Continental Airlines. His fascination with engines no doubt sprung from his late uncles, Arthur and John Hostetter, originally shade-tree mechanics who founded Hostetter Service on East Lancaster, which Gene later owned.

Gene was a loving husband, an amazing father and grandfather, and a lifelong friend to many. He was larger than life and generous beyond measure. His boisterous spirit lit up any room he entered. Children and dogs flocked to him, sensing his pure heart.

Along with repairing and restoring cars, Gene enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting in his younger days, along with life's simple pleasures like watching the birds, squirrels, and other wildlife outside his home. He and his late sister, Ann Browder of Weatherford, were avid readers and loved sharing books with each other. Gene loved watching the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and college football (especially his Texas Aggies), a cold beer on a hot day, and the occasional glass of Canadian whiskey. He was a genuinely kind man and a stranger to no one.

Along with generations of his family, Gene attended Meadowbrook United Methodist Church, before joining Joshua Methodist when he and Julie relocated there in 1996. He was very close to his church families.

Gene was predeceased by his eldest son, Gregory Allen Dimock; stepson, Mike Estill; granddaughter, Madison Dimock; mother-in-law, Jimmie Naomi (Brown) Gregory; and his dear sister, Ann.

In addition to his loving wife of 39 years, Gene is survived by his daughter, Tami Dimock O'Brien and her husband, Paul; son, Christopher Edward Dimock and his wife, Kara; stepson, Lance Estill and partner, Shana; grandchildren, Mason and Hannah Dimock, Mike Estill and his wife, Kelsey, Taylor Estill, and Ronan Dimock; great-grandchildren, Waylon, Josey Gene, and Michael Estill; special niece, Debbie Browder; as well as many other relatives and dear friends.

We would like to express our sincere thanks for the loving care and friendship that Gene received in his later years from all his caretakers and nurses from DFW Senior Care and Maxserve Hospice.

I'm the husband of Gene's cousin Elsie ( Hostetter) Stovall. I first met Gene in 1958 after we got engaged and went to Ft Worth to meet the relatives. Gene's and I hit it off immediately. We were less that a month apart in age. My first impression of Gene was He WAS BUILT FOR SPEED!! From drag racing to breaking the sound barrier in a Marine Jet. Then as a Captain with Contenetal Airline. Once on a trip with the Airline, I asked the Flight Attendant if she knew Gene. She responded, "OH yes, we all know Gene. If he is flying we know we have to finish our work early because he flies so fast we always arrive early." Gene was not only a relative by marriage, he was a friend. I will miss him. God bless his loving family!
