George F. Roof III

George F. Roof III GALVESTON--George F. Roof III, lovingly known as "Yeehaw" George, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 71 on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at his home in Galveston, Texas. George grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas, worked in his parents' Roof Bakery and Delicatessen, and graduated from Grand Prairie High School. He served in the United States Navy and received a degree in Culinary Arts from El Centro College. George was well-known throughout the Texas music scene and chili cook-offs, where he competed as a member of CASI. He had a reputation for being a storyteller, never knowing a stranger, and for living life to the fullest. George truly had a heart the size of Texas. George was preceded in death by his father, George F. Roof Jr.; his mother, Gladys; and his brother, John. SURVIVORS: He is survived by Valerie M. Roof, his wife of 15 years, and her daughters, Robin Wade, Amanda Douglas and Mary Burns. He is also survived by daughter, Candace Eldridge; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ginger Roof. He also leaves behind his honorary "sister," Nowela Supebedia of Connecticut; and grandchildren, Brodie, Grayson, Maddox, Rhyder, Lucian and Kori.
