Gerald Brown Obituary

Gerald "Scott" Brown
May 30, 1963 - March 18, 2022
Fort Worth, Texas - Gerald "Scott" Brown, 58, passed away March 18, 2022 in Los Angeles, Calif., after a courageous 11-year battle with late-stage prostate cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and a small bevy of adoring nurses.
Born to Gerald and Yvonna Brown on May 30, 1963 in Dallas, Texas, Scott graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1981, received his BA from Texas A&M University in 1985, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He earned his law degree from SMU in 1989. At every juncture, he cultivated amazing friendships that lasted his lifetime.
Scott began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Tarrant County District Attorney's office. While there, he impressed judges, charmed courthouse staff, and honed his trial skills. Around this time, Scott met his match in Whitney Pittman. After a lengthy and colorful courtship, they married in 1995, later welcoming two wonderful children Donovan and Margot.
In advocating for others, Scott found his true calling. He left the District Attorney's office and founded his own criminal defense practice in 1994. Over the next 27 years, Scott represented those accused in federal and state criminal investigations, trials and appeals. As a solo practitioner, he earned the respect and admiration of both sides of the bar throughout his career.
Graced with a brilliant legal mind, Scott was meticulous in his preparation for cases. His tremendous empathy for his clients manifested in an unparalleled work ethic. Scott's courtroom efforts resulted in more wins and favorable outcomes than are typical. The loss of Scott's advocacy, commitment, and compassion leaves a huge hole in the legal community throughout the state of Texas.
Scott was an active member of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, serving as President in 2011. Even as Scott gained national renown for a number of his cases, he remained true to his roots. In 2020, Scott was awarded the Austin 20's "Boots on the Ground" Award for his life-saving work on a compelling human trafficking case of a minor. In typical Scott fashion, he accepted the award but gave the young woman all of the praise.
An infectious spirit who passionately loved his family, Scott never met a stranger. His humility and devotion to others were instilled by his parents at an early age. A talented guitarist, Scott was also an enthusiastic reader of world history, a gym regular at Inursha and Zyn22, and a committed Premier Soccer League and Dallas Stars fan. Scott was an absolute whiz in the laundry room, a skill much admired by friends in the Berkeley Place neighborhood where he and Whitney resided for over 20 years.
Scott will be greatly missed by his wife, Whitney; and their children, Donovan and Margot; parents, Gerald and Yvonna; sister, Cindy (Mike); brother, Jeff (Megan); sister-in law, Katsy (Dan); and nieces and nephews, Mallory, Zachary, Ross, Miles, and Vivien.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

My husband and I met Scott in 2016 during a very difficult time in life. Scott not only represented my husband legally, but also became an amazing friend and support. We kept in touch over the years, and always knew how much Scott truly cared about us and our lives. What a tremendous loss this is. Thank you for your love, guidance and friendship, Scott. You are truly missed.

My condolences to Scott's family. He was an outstanding lawyer and an all-around great guy. I never saw him in a bad mood, and I never heard him complain, even when he was sick. He will be sorely missed.

I was so very sad and heartbroken to hear about the passing of this Amazing and Wonderful man. I worked with Scott for many years while I was a Probation Officer. Most of the time we wanted the same thing for his clients, even if the outcome wasn't always what the clients wanted. Sometimes we had fun bantering back and forth but it was always friendly and fun.
Scott was the epitome of professionalism and he was a true gentleman in every situation. Not only was he beautiful on the outside, but he had this very beautiful, warm, sweet, gentle spirit and heart! He always had a smile no matter how much he may have been in pain.
Every time you saw Scott it was hard Not to smile as well!
Scott will be missed by SO many people!
Sending much love and prayer to your family!

It is heartbreaking to imagine that Scotty Brown is no longer with us. As a producer for ABC News, I met Scott on a story many years ago. We became fast friends and I feel lucky to have met this brilliant, loving, kind, funny and tenacious man. I have met many wonderful people in my line of work over the years but Scott was truly one of the very best. Anyone who knew him can attest to how much he loved life, his many friends and of course his family. I have never seen anyone fight such a battle with so much dignity and intensity. He really wanted to win this one because he had so much to live for and so many people who adored him. No matter what he was going through - and it was alot - he was more concerned about everyone else. He never complained and was always so positive that it was hard to recognize how bad it was. We loved comparing our work outs and always did an exercise class together when he was in NYC. We had many fun dinners and laughs in Ft Worth snd NYZc over the years and many FaceTime visits in between. I texted him to set up a FaceTime while he was in LA getting treatments and never heard back. I knew that wasn´t good because Scott never ignored a text message. He was special and I, along with so many others, will miss him so much. Sending thoughts and prayers to his family, who he always talked about with pride. Rest In Peace Scott. Love you

Whitney my heart breaks for you and the kids. I knew this day would come before any of us were ready. He made me feel like he was invincible. He fought so hard because he loved you guys so very much. He definitely made this world a better place and I´m not ready to live in a world with out Scott Brown. I loved him dearly as so many did. He will be missed but never forgotten. You, Donovan and Margot are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you guys.
