Nancy Elita Hillman was born on October 25, 1949, in
Fort Collins, Colorado to Donald T. and Elita Lou Hillman, where her father was a student at Colorado A&M (now Colorado State University.) After graduation, the Hillman family settled in Englewood, Colorado. In1956, the family relocated to Austin, Texas, where they spent eight happy years. During this time, family were sealed together in The Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1964, the Hillmans moved again, this time to Dallas, much to fourteen year-old Nancy's dismay. However, she found her sweetheart Jerry in her first year at Bryan Adams High School. He was a year older and "looked so handsome" in his Junior ROTC uniform. A semi-blind date on December 27th, 1965, set history in motion. The two of them were nearly inseparable for 60 years.
Nancy and Jerry married August 16, 1969, in
Dallas, Texas and welcomed the first of four boys, Jerry Jr. (J.J.) in November of 1970.
The Air Force sent the newlyweds around the world. Their two-year tour in the Philippines brought the happy couple's second son Kenneth Wayne, in January 1972. Back to the states for eighteen months in Ogden, Utah, stationed at Hill Air Force Base,. Then came the only time they spent apart as Jerry served a one-year tour at Kunsan AFB, South Korea and Nancy moved back to Dallas to be near her parents. Next was
Austin, TX and K-9 school for Jerry where son number three, Robert Aubrey, born in August 1976. Duty then called Jerry and the family to Okinawa, Japan in December 1976 where son number four, Scott Long, was born in August 1979. Early 1980 found Jerry stationed at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Colorado was home to Nancy and family for 32 years before she and Jerry moved back to
Dallas, Texas.
Nancy was a devoted wife who supported Jerry through 20-years of USAF duty and 24-years as the wife of a police officer. Always the number one fan of her boys she was actively involved in their various activities from scouting, sports, church, band, and theater. A very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Nancy served in many Church callings and was greatly admired for her faith and dedication the gospel. She was a Saint of a woman in this world and loved her family unconditionally. If you were a part of one of her son's lives, you were now family. Blood never mattered for Nancy's love. Her home was always open; She fed her boys and many, many, many more young people and missionaries throughout her years.
