Geraldine Horne Obituary

Geraldine Marie Horne FORT WORTH -- Jerry Horne, 94, passed away at her home surrounded with love from her devoted family. SERVICE: A private graveside service was held on Dec. 22, 2018. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3:30 p.m. at Flowers on the Square, 4701 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, 76114. MEMORIALS: For those wishing to honor Jerry's memory the family suggests donations to The American Stroke/Heart Association, All Saints Episcopal Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Jerry was born Geraldine Marie Whiteford to Elsie O'Rourke Whiteford and Ralph Adam Whiteford on March 17, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn. She grew up in the Midwest and graduated from high school in Ottumwa, Iowa. She received her BA from the University of Iowa where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. While in college she met her husband, a dental student, Robert Keeler Horne. They were married for 59 years. In 1951, they moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Fort Worth, when Dr. Horne was drafted to serve in the dental corps at Carswell Air Force Base. They made Fort Worth their life long home. Jerry was a dedicated 70 year member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She spent many years actively participating in the Fort Worth Dental Auxiliary, the Texas Dental Auxiliary and the Woman's Club Creative Arts group. Jerry was a member of All Saints Episcopal church for over 50 years. Family, friends, and strangers all enjoyed Jerry's ever present smile, unfailing positive attitude, and polite, gracious manner no matter what the circumstances were. She enjoyed sharing her talents and creativity with others. Jerry was a genuine lady who leaves a legacy of grace, kindness and love for us to follow. We will cherish the memories of a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose support, patience, and generosity were unending. She will live forever in our hearts and minds. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Robert K. Horne; her sister, Patricia Agnes Whiteford; and her brother, Ralph Bernard Whiteford. SURVIVORS: Daughter, Marcia Garrett and husband, Jenkins Garrett; daughter, Patty Roberts and husband, Lew Roberts; her granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Garrett and Kate Garrett Murphy and husband, Jim Murphy; great-grandsons, Garrett Haynes Murphy and James Bennett Murphy; sister-in-law, Ruth Whiteford; nine nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Pearl. The family gratefully acknowledges and appreciates the care she received from Bobbie, Pansy, Sandra, Stephanie, and Suzie, the compassionate women who lovingly helped mother.
