Guy Hutcheson Obituary
Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Arlington, 313 N. Center St. Burial: 2 p.m. in Springtown Cemetery, Springtown. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Guy was born March 14, 1911, in Springtown. After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1933, he spent two years as a radio operator on a scientific expedition to Antarctica. Upon his return, he worked for CBS in New York for 10 years. During this time, he married Ruth Beal from Palestine. They had been married 58 years when she passed away Oct. 18, 1996. In 1945, Guy and his family returned to Texas, where he started a consulting engineering office in Arlington. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, the Downtown Rotary Club and the Masonic Lodge. He also served on the Arlington school board for 19 years. Hutcheson Junior High School is named in his honor. The leader of Guy's Antarctic expedition, Adm. Richard Byrd, described him as "the most serene, the most undisturbed and certainly one of the most decent minds I have ever met." His family agrees with this sentiment. He was a constant figure in their lives and though he will be missed, his example and his memory will remain with them forever.
Survivors: Daughters, Betty Barringer and husband, Van, of Dallas and Ann Hightower and husband, John, of Arlington; grandsons, Bill Carroll and wife, Sandra, Jon Carroll, Carlton Hightower and Brantley Hightower; granddaughter, Caroline Carroll; and his loving canine companions, Bailey and Margaret Rose.

As a graduate of Hutcheson Jr. High and privilaged to know of the exciting adventures of Mr. Hutcheson I felt obligated to express my condolances for his passing and share a lesson I learned from his life. Bieng from a blue collar background in Arlington I was always teased by my peers for dreaming of doing more with my life than working "the line at the plant". Mr. Hutcheson's adventures made me believe that anything is possible, if he could have adventures so could I! I am a 45 year old father of three, I have traveled the world and lived extended periods in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. My family and I speak multiple languages and know multiple cultures, our lives have been blessed by believing that anything is possible. Part of this blessing is due to learning at an early age that I don't have to settle for the norm, nor did Mr. Hutcheson. I owe him thanks for the insperation that "I CAN DO IT IF I WANT TO"! Our prayers are with you and your family. Thank you

My condolences to all of you. Guy's father, James Doughty Hutcheson and my grandfather, Charles LaFayette Hutcheson were brothers. I enjoyed visiting with Guy at family gatherings through the years, which unfortunately for the past 20 years or so, have been gatherings at funerals of family members. I regret that I am not able to able to attend services for Guy today but my thoughts are with you.
