Fort Worth , Texas - Helen was born in Fort Worth on December 8, 1929 to Florence Ryan Carpenter and Page Carpenter. She was very proud of being a Texan. She graduated, at 16, from North Side High School and met J.D. Johnson, her childhood sweetheart. After graduation, they were married in 1947. J.D. built a small 2-bedroom house on the Northside. They started their family with 2 sons, Gary and Kent. J.D. died of a heart attack in 1978. Helen's career spanned 21 years as a Lady's Sportwear Buyer at Stripling's Department Store, travelling frequently to the New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas markets. She also studied voice with Helen Emery at the Fort Worth Conservatory of Music and sang with the Fort Worth Opera in the Opera Chorus for many years. She married Bob Phillips in February of 1981. Their marriage lasted 38 years and ended upon Bob's death in 2018. They travelled to many states and overseas during their marriage. They attended River Oaks Christian Church for many years. Helen and Bob were also charter members of Arborlawn United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will take place on July 27, 2022 at 10 AM in the Elizabeth Cramer Chapel at Arborlawn.
