Funeral: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Funeral Home in Arlington.

Hugh was born Sept. 23, 1923, in San Saba to Ted and Lela Nalls Brown. He graduated from San Saba High School in May 1942. Hugh married Martha Jo Wilson Brown Aug. 27, 1954, in Fort Worth. He served in the Army during World War II, receiving three Bronze Stars. Hugh got his B.S. and master's degrees from Sam Houston State College.
He taught in the Arlington school district 23 years, retiring from Sam Houston High School in 1987 after 34 years of teaching. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, American Legion, and life member of Texas Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors: Wife, Martha Jo Wilson Brown of Arlington; sons, Stephen Miller Brown and wife, Kathy of Mansfield, Gerald Wayne Brown and wife, Nancy of Arlington; daughter, Carol Ann Brown McCaleb and husband, Mike of Mansfield; grandchildren, Stephanie, Matt and Michael Brown, Kyle and Chase Brown, Garrett and Colby McCaleb; step-grandchildren, Carrie and Michael McCaleb; brother, Ted Brown and wife, Annabelle of San Saba; sister-in-law, Anita Brown of Hurst; numerous nieces and nephews.

Hugh was always a Christian and friend. An ordinary man who did extraordinary things. The world is a little less bright in his passing. May God's blessings and comfort be with the family.
