Ida Smith Obituary

Ida Caroline Smith

January 12, 1930 - August 16, 2025

Pantego, Texas - Ida Caroline Smith was born on January 12, 1930 in Slippery Rock, PA to William and Caroline Smith. She received her Registered Nursing Degree from Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing in Meadville, PA in 1951.

Ida met George Duane Smith during her nursing school years and they were married on March 31, 1951. They were married for 68 years, 8 months.

Starting in 1953, Ida raised and nurtured her 6 children. They all, in turn, were blessed to take care of her in her final years and fulfilled her wish to live in her house until she peacefully slipped into eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ on August 16, 2025.

When the family moved to Texas, in August, 1969, she resumed her nursing career working at Arlington Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1992. Ida met many lifelong friends while she was at AMH and when she was an active member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. She enjoyed being a member of the Women's Guild, the Garden Club, the Leisure Club, and she served as Secretary to the Serra Club. She lovingly served as a member of the Auxiliary to the Carmelite Nuns, and was a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

Duane and Ida were fortunate to enjoy many years of amazing travels across the US and worldwide.

Ida is preceded in death by her parents, three of her four siblings, and her husband, Duane. She is survived by her brother, Zeno Smith, her children: Debbie Odell (Chris) , David Smith, Doug Smith (Diana), Diane Tejeda (Pedro), Danny Smith (Susan), Denise Gentile (Jim), plus 13 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.

Her services are scheduled for 9/13/2025 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church at 10:30 am.
