Fort Worth, Texas - Isabel Jean Holmes, 95, passed away suddenly on May 20, 2024.

Visitation: 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite A, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Memorial Service: 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 in Live Oak Chapel at Greenwood, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. A reception will follow from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Live Oak Room at Greenwood.

Isabel was born to the late Reginald and Isabel Dobson, April 29, 1929, in Tilbury, Ontario, Canada. Isabel was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Robert (Bob) Holmes M.D., whom she married in 1949.

She grew up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She lived and taught in London while Bob did his post graduate training in internal medicine. They moved to Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada where she raised three children, taught elementary school, high school physical education, and coached. Bob was elected as a member of parliament, so she spent significant time traveling back and forth between Ottawa and Wallaceburg. In 1980, she and Bob moved to Fort Worth, Texas.

In Fort Worth, Isabel was always busy. She chaired the senior citizens fair in Fort Worth for many years, was on the Board of Directors of Saint Francis Village, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, was active in the Fort Worth medical auxiliary, taught reading to young children and was a friend to everyone she met. Isabel touched the lives of so many during her 95 years. She was a wonderful, gracious human being who will be missed by many. She now rests in the arms of our Lord.

Isabel is survived by her son, David Holmes M.D. of Denton; daughters, Sandra Murphy of Haltom City, TX, and Sharon Scott of Courtright, Ontario, Canada; grandchildren, Robert Murphy, James Scott, Suzanne (Scott) Knight, Mike Scott, Brad Holmes M.D., Chris Holmes, Ryan McDunn, and Derek McDunn; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
