Jack Iker Obituary
August 31, 1949 - October 5, 2024
Fort Worth, Texas - The Rt. Rev. Jack Leo Iker became The Third Bishop of Fort Worth on January 1, 1995. Before his election, Bishop Iker was rector of The Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota, Florida for 15 years.
He was one of the four founding bishops of the Anglican Communion Network and was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Anglican Council and Nashotah House Seminary. He served on the National Council of Forward in Faith – North America and was president of the International Bishops' Conference on Faith and Order.
Bishop Iker married Donna Marie Bowling in 1968; they have three daughters, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, at St. Vincent's Cathedral,
1300 Forest Ridge, Bedford, TX 76022, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be held on October 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral.

Although I belong to St.Michael & All Angels Dallas, I attended a small weekend retreat many years ago led by Bishop Iker at the former Bishop Mason Retreat Center in Flower Mound. I was extremely touched by Bishop Iker´s warmth and authentic spirituality, almost mystical in depth. Since childhood, I have strongly believed that God would not discriminate against women being fully ordained as priests; and I planned to present my views to Bishop Iker. However, by the end of the retreat, I realized that Bishop Iker was a blessed man, truly walking with the Holy Spirit.....and I would leave it up to the Holy Spirit....to "enlighten" Bishop Iker....or not!!!
I was blessed by Bishop Iker, who deepened my spirituality. I am grateful for Bishop Iker!

A true servant of God, defender of the Faith, the Lion of Ft. Worth. I enjoyed serving with Bishop Iker as a Lay Minister, Verger, and Sr. Warden. Bp. Iker put it all on the line for the Diocese of Ft. Worth, never wavering or backing down. If the Church had more leaders like him.......we will miss him. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Bishop Iker was a fine Christian man and ministered to all those inquiring about Jesus' truth. My heart goes out to his family, especially his daughter Debbie who is a medical assistant at my doctor's office. May Bishop Iker's memory be eternal!
