Edward Morris Cohen
February 7, 1960-March 11, 2026. Born and raised in Cincinnati, fourth of five children of the late Samuel and Fredericka Barnet Cohen. A graduate of Walnut Hills (and football team player and manager) and the University of Cincinnati and its ROTC program, Ed continued his father and grandfather's legacy of military service, proudly serving in the US Army, Army Reserve, and retiring as a Captain from the Army National Guard. Highlights of his career include service as a Tank Platoon Leader with the 2nd Armored Division (Forward) in Garlstedt, Germany and being activated as an instructor with the Army Reserve's 70th Training Division at Fort Benning in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He later worked in the insurance industry in Bloomington and Cincinnati, a job he loved.
Ed moved in February 2025 to Lexington KY, to be near his beloved daughter Denise Joy Lewis, her wonderful husband Michael Douglas Lewis and his adored grandchildren-Samuel Wyatt, Andrea Rachelle, and Sophia Elizabeth Lewis. Although in Lexington barely a year, the staff at his favorite breakfast place wept at the news of his passing.
Ed is survived by other members of his loving family: wife and daughter, Brenda Jacobs Cohen and Emily Sue Cohen, both of Bloomington IN; siblings Anne Cohen (Steve Michaels) of NYC; Sara Fishback (John) of Pittsburgh PA; Andrew (Ali Ottaviano) Cohen of Roanoke VA; and Alfred (Kathleen Crane) Cohen of Bloomfield NJ; cousins and their families, Leslie Paige, Amy Sansbury, Eric Zeldin, Lois Wilks and Jesse Barnet; nieces and nephews Elizabeth and Rachel Fishback, Tegan Cohen, William (Lauren) Cohen, and Nathan and Barnet Cohen and many more friends than he realized.
Our family is grateful for care and affection shown Ed and us all by everyone at the Surgical Trauma ICU of the UK Chandler Hospital.
