Ronald Ginger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weil Kahn Funeral Home on Mar. 9, 2026.
Ronald "Ron" Lee Ginger of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in Eaton, Ohio, on Christmas Eve in 1934 to Kenneth and Grace Ginger, Ron lived a life defined by grit, determination, and a deep love for his family and community.

After graduating from Ohio University with a degree in Journalism in 1957, he married the love of his life, Myra Alter, in 1958. Ron spent nearly 40 years as a dedicated journalist, working as a reporter, editor, and photographer for various local newspapers and companies. He was known for his hard work ethic, his reliability, and an endless supply of corny dad jokes.

Ron was a man of immense courage and empathy, once rushing into a burning car to rescue several teens after a train accident. Outside of work and heroics, he loved photography, music, sports, sushi and wine. While he enjoyed basketball, softball and bowling in his youth, he later found a true passion for bicycling. He participated for decades in organized rides like Great Ohio Bike Adventure (GOBA), Tour of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV), and Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI), often taking his grandchildren along to create forever memories on the road.

Even in retirement, Ron stayed active by volunteering as a van driver for the elderly at Mason Christian Village and writing newsletters for the Cincinnati Bicycle Association. He had a special soft spot for animals, especially dogs and even more specifically Schnauzers!

Ron is survived by his son, Elliott Ginger (Vicki), his daughters, Kelly Stockwell and Amy Ginger (Frank), and his grandchildren Allison Ginger (Paul), Michael Berg (Mercedes), Chris Ginger and Claire Diaz (Connor), and his great granddaughter Chloe Ginger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra, his parents, his sister, Doris Martin, and his son-in-law Dean Stockwell.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 15, at 1:00 pm at United Jewish Cemetery, 7885 Ivygate Ln, Montgomery, OH 45242. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to SPCA Cincinnati, 11900 Conrey Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249.
