Jack McCaslin Obituary

Jack McCaslin passed away Friday, March 18, 2011. Service: 11 a.m. Monday First Baptist Church, Alvarado, with burial at 4 p.m in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home at 518 Johnson St. in Burleson. Jack was born Oct. 9, 1939, in Wolfe City to Raymond and Ima Fae McCaslin. He was raised there in a farming family and attended Wolfe City High School, where he was the valedictorian and a state champion runner. His academic and running skills attracted the attention of Southern Methodist University, and he received a track scholarship to attend school there. In 1960, while at SMU, he married Trevalyn June Mashburn, also of Wolfe City. Upon graduation from SMU with a bachelor of business in accounting, Jack served honorably as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. After three years in the Marines, he joined the Dallas branch of the international accounting firm of Haskins and Sells (now Deloitte and Touche). In 1968 Jack moved to Fort Worth, where he became a partner in the firm and opened their tax office. Jack later established his own accounting firm in Fort Worth, McCaslin & Company, PC., and at the time of his death was a principal with Whitney Penn, LLP, an accounting and professional consulting firm. In 1971 Jack and his family moved to Alvarado. There he was active in the community as a member of the Alvarado ISD School Board, First Baptist Church and was president of the board of directors of United Cooperative Services. In the midst of all his professional accomplishments, Jack was most proud of his family and being a devoted father to his daughters, Jackie and Whitney, and granddaughter, Meredith. He was also deeply committed to the farming community in Wolfe City, and to the athletics program at SMU. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, June; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Mike Odom of Glen Rose, Whitney and Bruce Laughlin of San Diego; his granddaughter, Meredith Rae Odom; and brother; Harold McCaslin of McKinney.

June, Jackie & Whitney - I am still in shock over this - as I knew NOTHING about the issues Jack had been having with his heart. I am heart broken for each of you, as I know you miss him dearly. He was a man of his word and a mentor, someone I looked up as a father figure and sought to be like him one day. He is now perfect in every way in Heaven and we can all be assured that one day we will all see him again! Stay strong and know he is watching down over you every day and quietly smiling...just like he so many times did! Our world is missing a great man today...and heaven gained another angel! May God bless all of you!

To the family of Jack McCaslin: What a great guy Jack was. Our friendship started many, many years ago at the Ft. Worth Club and we both attended SMU so I would see him at games and various activities over the years. He dotted every "i" and crossed every "t". If you wanted something done right, he was the man to see. I know you will miss him and it was hard to find anybody with such a high character as Jack. God bless you all.

Working with Jack for even a few months I could see what a great man he was. Talking to those who have worked for him for years I see he was someone who lead with a kind and giving heart and all have only kind words to say about him. God bless your family you are in our prayers.

I mourn the loss of a true friend and mentor. I have been able to achieve a high level of professional success and accomplishment due in great part to Jack's guidance, trust, and patience. His friendship and continued mentorship will be truly missed.
