Lynn Gordon Nelson

April 22, 1938 – December 10, 2025

Lynn Gordon Nelson passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 87. He was born on April 22, 1938, at home in the China Grove community of Fannin County, Texas, to Minnie Boyd Carpenter-Nelson and Gilbert Nelson.

Gordon was born again at The Mina Baptist Church and was baptized in a nearby pond in 1946. He graduated from Wolfe City High School in 1956 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University, now East Texas A&M University in Commerce. He also completed postgraduate studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Criswell Bible Center.

On January 1, 1968, Gordon married the love of his life, Lora Lea Scott, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they had 3 children.

Gordon pastored churches in East and Central Texas and served as Executive Director of the International Fence Industry Association. Since 1998 he was known throughout the community as The Wedding Preacher, officiating several thousand weddings and counseling many couples over the years.

He was a devoted member of Glenview Church, where he served as a Deacon and former head of the First Touch Ministry. He was also a proud Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Gordon is survived by his bride of 57 years, Lora Lea Nelson. He is also survived by his children, Sheria Lea Walker, Juliet Lynn McIntosh, and Gil Nelson and his wife Leslie Ann, and by his grandchildren: Gabriel Scott Walker, Erryn Christine Walker, Michael Gary Walker, Brooke Elizabeth McIntosh, Ethan Scott Nelson, Adam Thomas Nelson, Hayden Joseph Nelson, and Elize Lynn Nelson.

He is survived as well by his great grandchildren, Kingston Anthony Walker, Brielle Walker, Jayden Walker, and Opal Grace Harrison, and by his sister, Iris Carol McWhirter. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends from Glenview Church.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Minnie Boyd Nelson, his brother Ernie Nelson, his brother-in-law Tom McWhirter, and his son in law James McIntosh.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced soon and will be held at Glenview Church, 4805 Northeast Loop 820, Fort Worth, Texas 76137.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Glenview Church.

"God has you in His arms and I have you in my heart."

Love, Lora Lea
