James Furr Obituary

James C. Furr
January 1, 1952 - January 20, 2022
Grand Prairie, Texas - James C. Furr, devoted husband and father, passed away on January 20, 2022. He had an enthusiasm for aircraft, fast cars and the Beatles, but above all, he always placed the greatest importance on Family.
Funeral: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at First Methodist Church, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood.
James was born on January 1, 1952 in Fort Worth. He went to Eastland Elementary School in Fort Worth, middle school in Hurst and graduated from L.D. Bell High School in 1970. He was a life- long member of the United Methodist Church, first at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church, then later at First United Methodist of Hurst. After James moved to Arlington, he married Patricia and became part of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church from 1986 until today. James spent 20 years with the Boy and Cub Scouts in the Longhorn Council, Cross Timber District from Cub Master to Scout Master, and sat on many local Eagle Scout Boards of Review. God and family were always important in James's life. He knew if you put God first all the rest would fall into the right place.
Prior to James's graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington, James was employed by United States Postal Service. Most of ten years that James was with the Postal Services was at the Dallas bulk mail center. His mother was the Safety Officer at the Bulk Mail Center; so he was able to work close to her during those years. He also developed close friendships during that time.
James was in the IT department for 34 years from Texas Electric Services to Oncor where he retired in March 2017. James had developed many close friends during the 34 years employed with the company. James's customers were always number one to him for the large Texas Grid. Whether it was Wichita Falls to west Texas or Dallas and Fort Worth, he made everyone feel like they were the most important person to the company. When he volunteered to help on the phone helplines during storms, people would ask to speak to James because friends told them he was a person who really cared. James's communication skills even came in handy at Glen Rose Nuclear Power Plant a few times. He helped the IT department with some bugs in the system and went to Granbury to help lead an IT and Safety class. James always loved socializing with coworkers, from lunches to after work. James found his career with IT and Oncor to be quite rewarding.
James left behind a bereaved wife, four sisters, step mother, two sons, step son, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Jimmy was my best friend in high school (LD Bell Hurst). We met in the 9th grade while going to Central Jr High and he wanted to see my mini-bike.
We first worked together at Woodies Lawnmower Repair in Arlington, TX. When he found the owner's pistol hidden, he picked it up... pulled the trigger and it fired. And the owner fired him.

He then went to work at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington Tx. on maintenance... I followed him there. We worked together until I got fired for snorting helium... ha.

Jimmy, Harold Mills and I were best friends. A most memorable time together was when Harold drove his 1960 Chevy Impala 409, twin 4-barrels... down I20 in Fort Worth... we were flying low at 140 mph... the car was close to liftoff.

As a result of his encouragement, I got a job with the Post Office in 1971.

We continued as friends throughout college and he even attended my graduation in Lubbock Tx in 1976... I remember he had driven his purple 1968 Plymouth Barracuda fastback.

The last email I received from him was on December 14, 1921... he replied...

Thanks for the email. We actually had a 1960 Buick 4 door hardtop, white loaded with options including the 365 ci 4 barrel. in 1960 we were in East Texas in a 1955 buick and it broke down. Dad caught a ride to the next town and came back in the new car. Mom seemed upset but my 8 year old brain could not understand why.
Brings back memories.
By the way I had a stroke yesterday and am in the hospital today. Thankfully Pat got me to the hospital quickly and I expect to make a quick and complete recovery. Thanks to God

Sorry for your loss Pat! Love you!

Love you Jimmy!

I had the privilege of working with Jimmy at the downtown post office in our younger days! Yes, I remember his fondness for fast cars and enjoyed an occasional ride in his Corvette! He was a truly sweet man and I am so sorry for your loss.

James was my mentor and friend, but then he was that to so many who worked with him. We miss him.

Nothing I can say that those of you that knew Jimmy don't already know or feel with his passing. A great friend to be sure. He fell in with a bunch of heathens after high school. Not sure why he did or why he tolerated us but I will always be glad he did. Yes he liked fast cars but his best vehicle was a 1962 Ford Econoline window van. Always remember the trips to the Brazos with a load of people and a canoe strapped to the top. Pat I am so sorry for your loss. You always put up with us trying to corrupt Jimmy. You are the epitome of grace. He loved you more than anything. Lots more that I could add but not enough room so goodbye buddy I know the sun is shining on you.
