James Goldsmith Obituary

James Floyd Goldsmith, Jr.
July 8, 1926 - December 29, 2020
Fort Worth, Texas - James Floyd Goldsmith, Jr., 94, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, of complications of Covid virus.
Mr. Goldsmith was born in Fort Worth July 8, 1926, to the late James Floyd and Hazel (Allen) Goldsmith. A 1943 graduate of Polytechnic High School, he served in the U.S. Army during and shortly after the Second World War. Mr. Goldsmith later embarked upon a civilian career in the insurance industry, serving first with the World Service Life Insurance Company, and later as a founding partner at Karl Singer & Associates. In 1952, he married Ina Sue Van Horn of Fort Worth and together they spent the next 44 years jointly raising three children and one grandchild.
Mr. Goldsmith was devastated after Ina's passing, but he continued to serve as family patriarch, living independently and maintaining strong family ties until earlier this year. Mr. Goldsmith was intelligent, humorous, well-traveled, and appreciative of fine art and architecture. He loved all children, bound himself to family and friends, and possessed uncommon integrity, generosity, loyalty and understanding. He will undoubtedly be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Goldsmith was preceded in death by his wife, Ina Sue Goldsmith; brother, Toby Goldsmith and his wife, Martha; and numerous beloved in-laws from the Van Horn and Maxwell families.
Survivors: Sister, Linda Bagley and her family; children, Geary Goldsmith and wife, Carolyn, Marianne Goldsmith, and Fred Goldsmith; grandchildren, Ashley Normand and husband, Rob Mitchell, Amanda Richey and Ryan Richey; great-grandchildren, Robert and James Mitchell; as well as many Goldsmith, Van Horn and Maxwell nieces and nephews.
Appreciation goes out to Mr. Goldsmith's caregivers at Watermark Town Village and Watermark Broadway, especially for all their work over the past nine months.
Due to the pandemic, only immediate family will be present for interment. Persons interested in joining the Goldsmith family for a celebration of life gathering (to be held at a later date) are asked to notify Greenwood Chapel.
