James Mathews Obituary

James Paul Mathews

March 18, 1946 - May 16, 2024

Fountain Hills, Arizona - James Mathews, 78, passed into the arms of our Lord Jesus on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Mount Olivet Chapel.

James Paul Mathews was born to Edward and Pearl Mathews on March 18, 1946, and was the first of Pearl's seven children to be born in a hospital as four elder children were birthed at home.

He married his teenage sweetheart, Sharon Lee Firm, in 1963. James began by cleaning and preparing homes, and graduated into painting and wallpapering, providing for his family.

James served in ministry touching many souls in the Christian Motorcycle Association on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He served his brothers and sisters in his church.

He was greeted at Heaven's gate by his son, Thomas Andrew Mathews; parents, Edward and Pearl Mathews; brothers, Edward, Bearl, Nehemiah, Nathan, Thomas Lee, Phillip, Earl, and Muriel Mathews; sister, Naomi Mathews; and nieces, Teresa Mathews and Tammy Branson. Many more family and friends greeted him at the gate along with the angelic host and his savior, Jesus Christ.

James Paul Mathews is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon Lee Mathews of Fountain Hills, Arizona; son, Christopher James Mathews of Arlington; sisters-in-law, Melba Mathews and Doris Mathews; his 'In-Laws' include Andrew Harvey Firm, Douglas and Joanna Herrell, and Elizabeth Ann Barker; nieces and nephews, Carolyn Mathews-Brown, Diana Jackson, Kimberly Britton, Steve Mathews, Kevin Firm, Misty Firm, Jodi Livingston, Jonathan Firm and Billy Barker; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews from the Mathews and Firm legacy.

The family wants to thank you for your thoughts and prayers and has asked in lieu of flowers to please give to a ministry of your choice in honor of James Paul Mathews.

I treasure the times through the years spent with the Mathews clan. I would visit James and Sharon at their Arlington home on occasion. I would see them at some church events. James had such a kind demeanor. He loved Jesus, Sharon, and his family. James' brother Phil was a very special friend of mine. All the siblings and parents are now reunited in heaven. James will be missed on earth, but we rejoice in the assurance of a grand reunion in heaven in God's time. God's peace and comfort to Sharon, Chris, and all the relatives and friends still on earth.
