Dallas, Texas - James Elwood McKinney- July 16, 1934-June 8, 2025, Dallas, Texas. James Elwood McKinney, 90, born in Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 8, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. Funeral Service: 12 noon, Thursday, June 19 at Independence Chapel, Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth, with Steve Hudson and David Mann officiating. Elwood McKinney was born to James Bell (J.B.) and Nan McKinney on July 16, 1934. He married Doris Shaw on June 18, 1954, in Sherman, Texas. He attended Austin College and was a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado in Boulder. Elwood was a life-long banker, an examiner, bank supervisor, and goodwill ambassador for the Texas Department of Banking, as well as former President of both Security State Bank and American State Bank in Fort Worth. Elwood is preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Nan McKinney, his wife, Doris McKinney, and his sister, Jeanne McKinney Garofalo. Elwood is survived by his son, Scott McKinney of Dallas, brother-in-law, Gary B. Garofalo, of Washington, D.C., and sister-in-law, Connie Beale, of Plano, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made in Elwoods' memory of your choosing.

Scott, so sorry to hear about your Dad. Chase and I enjoyed visiting with y'all at the Ranger games and sharing many stories. Your Dad was a great man and father to you. I know you'll miss both of your parents but they are together again. You have a lot of good memories so cherish all of them.
