James Murphy Obituary

James "Jimmy" Murphy Jr.
August 7, 1953 - January 31, 2022
Fort Worth , Texas - James "Jimmy" Murphy Jr., 68, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022.
Jimmy was born August 7, 1953 in Fort Worth to Susanne and James Murphy. He was a 1971 graduate of Boswell High School where he played football and was an All-State running back. He was inducted into the EMSISD Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. He continued his education and football career at Southern Methodist University, where he was a running back for the Mustangs. He was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at SMU and has remained close with many of his fraternity brothers.
After graduating from SMU, Jimmy worked with his father at Southwestern Meat Company in Fort Worth. In 1980, he embarked on a successful career in the oil and gas industry. He founded, owned, and managed Telesis Operating Co. and transitioned into business with his sons at TOC Energy Resources in 2015. Jimmy had a passion for the business and thrived in his ventures.
In 1978, he married the love of his life Julie. Jimmy put family first and was very proud of their two sons Jim and Jon. After the birth of his four grandsons, he became affectionately known as "Jefe". Jimmy adored his grandsons and found no greater joy than spending time with them and his sons. He was proud of his Murphy family tree and took great care in passing on its legacy.
Jimmy was witty, bold, loyal, and generous. He often had people laughing with his wisecracks and vibrant story-telling. While he enjoyed doing his own thing and marching to the beat of his own drum, he could always be depended on by close friends and family.
Jimmy had a lifelong passion for music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a member of the band A Shot In The Dark in the 90s. His hobbies included snow skiing, getting Starbucks coffee, traveling to his favorite destinations - Mexico and Colorado, and enjoying the finer things in life. Most of all he loved spending time with the people he cherished. He will be missed dearly.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents James and Susanne Murphy and his wife Julie Haynes Murphy.
Survivors: Sons, Jim Murphy III and wife Kate and Jon Murphy and wife Stephanie; grandsons, Garrett, Connor, Bennett and Liam; brother, Pat Murphy and wife Elaine; sister, Suzanne Ball and husband Wes; nephews, Patrick and Taylor Murphy and wives; niece, Allison Ball; the Tom Brown Clan; and a host of extended family and friends.
Memorial Service: 1 pm on Monday, February 7th at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Dr., Fort Worth.
