James Stuckert Obituary

James Lamar Stuckert Jr., 86, a commercial Realtor and much-loved and devoted family man, passed peacefully from this earth on Friday, June 22, 2007.

Celebration of Life: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Father Chris Davis celebrant. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.

Memorials: His memory may be honored with a gift to the Salvation Army, 1855 E. Lancaster, Fort Worth 76103.

Born Nov. 9, 1920, to James Lamar Stuckert and Ethel Mulkey Stuckert, Lamar was a native son of Fort Worth. Father of six children and "Papamar" to 11 grandchildren, Lamar was quick to say how proud he was of all his family and how blessed he was to have each one of them.

Throughout his life Lamar was a friend to everyone he met, and the people he encouraged and helped are numerous. Wherever he went Lamar was well known for his eternal optimism and unique sense of humor. He considered it a pleasure and honor to help his fellow man, and his family is proud of his legacy of thoughtfulness in action.

Lamar graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1937 and attended the University of Texas at Austin before enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He graduated from the Naval Air School as a navigator and served in the Pacific theater of World War II, where he became a member of the Pacific Fleet Squadron Number 44, also known as the "Black Cats."

Returning to Fort Worth, Lamar enjoyed a long career as a home builder and served as president of the Greater Fort Worth Home Builders Association in 1956. This past October he was honored by the organization with a Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 50 years of dedicated service.

A past member of the Steeplechase Club, Lamar was an avid bridge player and a 60-year member of the Fort Worth Club, where he enjoyed the competition and camaraderie of his favorite bridge group. He also looked forward to monthly get-togethers with his classmates from the Poly class of '37.

Survivors: Devoted wife of 61 years, Jacqueline; daughters, Joanne Turner and husband, Tom of Fort Worth, Jennie Stuckert and Jill Stuckert Walker of Cos Cob, Conn. and Janice Shook of Irving; sons, James Lamar Stuckert III, and wife, Kathleen of Barry and Jeffrey Stuckert of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dear Jill and Mrs. Stuckert,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Stuckert was always a good sport when us girls would get into hi-jinks during high school. He will be greatly missed. Hugs & kisses Jill.
