Janet L. Murray

October 18, 1950 - May 27, 2024

Ashland City, Tennessee - Janet L. Murray, age 73, passed away on May 27, 2024. Janet was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 18, 1950, to the late William Floyd Brown and Dorothy Elizabeth (Perry) Brown. Janet was a graduate of Cheatham County High School, class of 1968. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in education and earned a teaching certificate.

Following graduation, she taught at East Cheatham Elementary, where she started the homebound and gifted student programs. She received a Masters degree in Education from Texas Women's University, developed the Talent and Gifted Program in Dallas Texas, and served as an instructional specialist.

She was Head Mistress of St. Vincent's Episcopal School in Euless, TX for 13 years and retired from HEB school district.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, W.B. and Dot Lockert; husband, B.J. Murray; and brother, Ric Brown, and son through marriage Mark Murray (Shawn and child Alex). She is survived by her son, Philip Blakeman; daughter, Kate Blakeman; grandchildren, Henry Blakeman, Lyle Blakeman, Merrick Blakeman, and Sara Thompson; her children by marriage Mike Murray (Jacky) and their children Drew Murray and Hannah Murray; brothers, Jake (Theresa) Lockert and Perry (Carol) Lockert; sisters, Patrice (Joe) Tracey and Julie (Ray) Hibbs; father of her children, Alan Blakeman; and multiple nieces, nephews and other extended family. The memorial service will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10am in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Father John Sims Baker officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4pm to 7pm and Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 9am until the service hour of 10am. She and her husband BJ were very dear to us and unofficially "adopted" my husband as their own as an adult. We regret not going to visit her once she moved back to Tennessee. Our condolences to her family. Here is the precious "adoption certificate" she created in her beautiful artistic style that will be missed.
