Jean Shirley Gruenhagen was born on June 27, 1928, in Somerville, Mass. She graduated from Medford High School.
Jean served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where she met and married her husband of 54 years, Robert W. Gruenhagen. They were married on July 4, 1952, in Las Vegas, Nev. She and her husband settled in Great Falls, Mont., for 13 years, moving to Arlington in 1966.
Jean was involved in numerous volunteer programs, including assisting with patterning for disabled children. In her 40s she returned to school and became a licensed vocational nurse. She worked for several years at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
Jean was an active member of the Arlington Woman's Club, where she was very involved with duplicate bridge. She greatly enjoyed the competition of playing bridge.
Jean was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors: Her husband, Robert Gruenhagen; daughter, Susan and husband, James Schrade of Arlington; daughter, Stephanie Ball of Mansfield; granddaughters, Hilary Ely and husband, Hervey of Fort Worth, Laura Ball of Mansfield and Emily Bailey of Arlington; grandson, Nathan Ball of Mansfield; sister, Margie Wilson and husband, Eska of Fullerton, Calif.; brother, Harold Law and wife, Aurelia of Gardena, Calif.; brother, Edward Law of Beaver, Pa.; sister-in-law, Beverly Johnston of Great Falls, Mont.; nieces; nephews; and many extended-family members and friends.
