I am proud to be a baby boomer because during that era the media was geared to good and wholesome interaction with FAMILY. Depending on where my father was stationed, there was ALWAYS a morning program for children (Icky Twerp, Captain Kangaroo, Romper Room and of course, Mr. Peppermint). My favorite character was Mr. Wiggly Worm. May God bless his family for sharing Mr. Peppermint with us and may they know that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

Like many, I first knew Mr. Haynes through his Mr. Peppermint shows and news and sportscasts. I played basketball with his son, Gibby, at LHHS. I interviewed him several times for varios stories. He was always charming, witty and down-to-earth. A friend and I even drove him home once from a Jackson Browne concert.
It's sad that he is gone, and he will be missed. But he lived a full life, as my dad did. That's about the best we can hope for, that we make it to the finish line standing and unbowed.

We have lost a dear, dear man. He is such a valuable memory in my mind. If I close my eyes I can just picture him walking around in Heaven singing
"Where is Thumbkin, where is
Thumbkin..."
He carried himself high, but never to high to tower over a child. He was safe. He was on your side. And he loved the children as much as the children loved him. He was welcome in my home as a child, and as an adult I loved watching my children watch him. I only wish we had more like him.....for my grandchildren now.

Jerry was always such a nice guy. He'd say hello to me whenever we saw each other, despite the fact that we never really worked on a show together. I knew he recognized me as part of the Dallas theatre family even if he didn't always know what I was working on specifically, and that acknowledgment from him is something I will always appreciate and cherish. He came to see the first show I ever directed in Dallas because we invited him. I didn't get to grow up with Mr. Peppermint, but it's easy to see why he was so well loved, not only by his young fans, by those who got to know him outside of that too, like me. I'll be thinking of your family, and knowing that you are in the best of places now. Sending love!

Mr Peppermint was my first childhood idol. I was thrilled when around age 3, my parents gave me a red and white striped jacket, straw hat and cane for Christmas. I spent many hours humming the theme music and re-enacting the opening sequence to his show. Years later I appeared on Peppermint Place many times to promote our puppet productions and we became friends. Jerry was one of the kindest, funniest gentlemen I have ever known. I will never forget you, Mr. P!

We knew Mr. Peppermint in two ways. My now grown daughter knew him from the American Lung Association where he was on the board with her beloved Granny, Winnie Lyle, during the 1980's; and again as Mr. Peppermint who was friends with Muffin,Mr. Wiggly and Jingles the Dragon. You are much loved and your family is surely aware of the many children whose lives he touched!
