Jo Worthington Obituary

Jo Worthington
February 10, 2021
Weatherford, Texas - Jo Worthington, 90, went to be with her Heavenly Father February 10, 2021 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
The family will hold a private service.
Jo was born in Pleasant Valley Tx., Palo Pinto County. She graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1947 where she was extremely popular and served as the drum major in the band. In 1950 as she and her mother were sitting at the soda fountain in Davis City Pharmacy in Weatherford, Walter Worthington walked in and asked her if she would go with him to opening night at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, and she accepted. Nine months later September 20, 1950 they were married in Alpine, TX and on that same day Water registered to attend Sul Ross College. One year later they moved to College Station, Tx where Walter attended Texas A&M. While in College Station Jo gave birth to two sons, Mark in 1952, and Brookes in 1954. After graduation Walter moved his family back to Weatherford where in 1961, daughter Jan was born.
Jo's mother was a strong Christian, and Jo had been taught the importance of going to church. She wanted her family in Church and from the day they were married, they were. In 1955, they joined First United Methodist Church. They were in church Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night for years and have so many great memories of raising their children in that church. Walter and Jo's children are all strong Christians as well as their spouses and their grandchildren.
Jo was incredibly talented. Although she never attended college, she had a ton of common sense and a strong imagination. In 1984, when she began working at the Weatherford National Bank where her husband was President, she and bank director, Helen Brogden came up with the idea to start a Peach Festival in Weatherford. After 36 years it is one of Weatherford's biggest annual events.
At about the same time, Jo began forming the "Peaches" Club at the bank. She and Helen took the "Peaches," the ladies and their spouses,"the Pits" all over much of the United States and the world.
In 1996 after Walter & Jo retired from banking, they began to vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They bought a plot of land on the Sea of Cortez, and at Jo's insistence they built 3 homes and still own one. Jo supervised the building of the homes and they all turned out beautiful. But the most important thing in Jo's life was her family. She would do anything to help her husband or her children and their families. She asked that on her tombstone it would say…" I cannot wait to see Jesus"!
