Funeral: was held Thursday at Laurel Land of Burleson Memorial Chapel. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth.
Survivors: Wife of seven years, Evelyn Matthews; children, Richard Matthews and wife, Roberta, and Judy Watkins and husband, George; extended family, Nell Martin and husband, Billy; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

I only knew you for 7 years but I loved you just the same as if I have known you forever. Thank you for the wonderful year you gave to my Mom. You were so precious to her snd she will miss your smile and your sense of humor for the rest of her days. We all miss you, but know that you are no longer in pain and that you are watching over us everyday.

John was my best friend for about 40 Years. He was a wonderful man that anyone could look up to. He was always there for me, no matter what the circumstances. John, you will be missed in many ways. My Prayers are with the family

John-For 20 years you were my grandfather. You embraced me into your heart because you and I shared a love for the same person, Russell. Russell thought the world of you and credits you for a lifetime of happy childhood memories. I appreciate the love you felt for me and I shared a sincere and deep love for you!
